As a Payroll Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing payroll services for a portfolio of national and international clients. You will oversee a team of payroll consultants and specialists, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing, while maintaining high standards of compliance, client service, and operational excellence.

You will serve as a key point of contact for clients, providing expert guidance on payroll-related matters, and contributing to the continuous improvement and digital transformation of payroll processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a diverse client portfolio, ensuring full compliance with local tax, labor, and social security regulations;
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of payroll professionals, ensuring workload balance, technical development, and performance management;
  • Act as the main contact for key clients, building trusted relationships and providing strategic payroll guidance and support;
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure clients’ payroll processes and policies remain compliant;
  • Review and validate payroll calculations, reports, and tax filings before submission;
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments to provide integrated client solutions;
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal preparation and presentations to prospective clients;
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and contribute to the automation and digitalization of payroll services;
  • Ensure data privacy and compliance with GDPR and firm standards.

To qualify for the role, the candidate must have

  • Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting, Law or related field;
  • At least 6 years of experience in payroll, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role, preferably within a consultancy or shared services environment;
  • Solid knowledge of Portuguese payroll legislation, tax, and social security frameworks;
  • Experience with payroll software and systems;
  • Strong Excel skills; ability to work with large data sets and reports;
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written); other languages are a plus.
