Description
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing new iPad products. Your role will encompass technology development, concept generation, detailed design, analysis, and testing from prototype to mass production.- Design product system layouts and detailed mechanical systems.- Construct prototypes to validate functionality, manufacturability, and robustness.- Utilize 2D and 3D CAD to communicate design intent and inspection requirements.- Perform or coordinate Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate and optimize design concepts.- Analyze data from builds and laboratory experiments.- Conduct tolerance analyses to predict the performance of mechanisms, sensors, and cosmetics.- Define specifications on 2D drawings for mechanical components.- Interact with vendors to develop manufacturing processes and tooling concepts.- Define testing requirements, equipment, and analyze the resulting data.- Support build activities, including identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • - A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • - Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • - Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, material science, and statistics.
  • - Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), with 3D CAD experience required (NX preferred).
  • - Design acumen: mechanical intuition, creative problem-solving, spatial reasoning, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • - Basic design skills: tolerance analysis, design for assembly (DFA), design for manufacturing (DFM), fixture design, understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC), and metrology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • - Experience in the design cycle from concept through manufacturing.
  • - Expertise in designing mechanical components for high-volume manufacturing, including injection molded parts, sheet metal components, die-cast, and machined parts.
  • - 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, particularly in consumer electronics.
  • - Teamwork experience with OEM/ODM vendors.
  • - Joint product development with international customers or colleagues, and support of factory daily activities.
  • - Knowledge of a broad range of materials and processes: metal machining, plastic injection, sheet metal design, and material finishing.
  • - Familiarity with electrical engineering fundamentals and interconnect technologies is advantageous.
  • - Design validation skills: Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), large data set analysis, computer-aided data analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and mechanical prototyping.
  • - Advanced CAD skills, including data exchange and collaboration with printed circuit board (PCB) and flexible printed circuit (FPC), eCAD, and electrical mechanical control outline (MCO) generation.
  • - Build support experience in a factory setting.
  • - Experience working in a team environment, with the ability to self-motivate and resolve design issues.
  • - Proficiency in high-volume manufacturing processes is desired. Candidates with a proven track record in precision mechanism and sensor design will be given strong consideration.
  • - Industry experience from medical, consumer electronics, automotive, aerospace, and other relevant fields is a plus.
