Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Law, Juris Doctor or equivalent international degree
  • Qualification to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years experience as a practicing attorney or equivalent practice of law.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferably 8+ years experience including covering ASEAN region and in handling complex commercial transactions as well as regulatory/compliance work.
  • A mix of private practice and in-house counsel experience is a plus.
  • Experience with regulated industries, exposure to cutting-edge technologies and related legal issues is a plus.
  • An aptitude for tackling novel challenges, ability to navigate ambiguity, and having a bias for action in a fast-paced matrixed environment.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a primary legal contact for Microsoft's commercial organization in ASEAN who is responsible for global strategy and sales execution, by anticipating and addressing highly complex legal and business issues, and serving as a key business partner and advisor.
  • Lead complex technology and sales transactions by developing negotiation strategies, creatively solving problems, coordinating across CELA and business team subject matter experts, managing outside counsel, and guiding risk-based decisions to meet the organization’s needs.
  • Keep abreast of regional laws and regulations that have an impact on Microsoft’s business lines, including cloud computing, cybersecurity, privacy, artificial intelligence and sustainability, and advise internal stakeholders accordingly.
  • Support business teams in ensuring legal and regulatory compliance and in providing well-considered and innovative solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including product legal teams, privacy / cybersecurity legal teams, and Government Affairs, on regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Partner with the Government Affairs team on regulatory assessments and advocacy strategies.
  • Lead efforts to improve processes and build capabilities for the wider CELA and business community.
