Capital Engineering Controls Manager
The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the Engineering Controls Manager you will oversee teams responsible for Construction Management (CM) and Project Controls (PC) for Large Capital Projects (LCAP). You will manage direct and contracted Construction Managers responsible for constructability, pre-construction planning, and field oversight. You will also manage PC specialists responsible for cost estimating, scheduling, change management and cost and schedule control. You will own the CM and PC deliverables and sub-processes within the LCAP work process, establishing performance standards and assuring work quality.

- Lead the development and implementation of control systems for capital engineering projects.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to define project requirements and objectives.
- Develop detailed cost estimates for capital projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies for control systems.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for control systems and cost estimates.
- Oversee the testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control systems.
- Analyze project costs and variances, providing recommendations for cost optimization.
- Prepare and present reports on project status, cost estimates, and performance metrics.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams and other departments.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in control systems technology and cost estimation practices.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and staff on control systems, cost estimation, and best practices.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management (completed and verified prior to start) and seven (7) years of experience in engineering controls and capital project estimation in a private, public, government or military environment.
OR
- High School Diploma/GED (completed and verified prior to start) and twelve (12) years of experience in engineering controls and capital project estimation in a private, public, government or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management from an accredited institution
- Ten (10) years of managing or performing Construction Management (CM) or Project Controls (PC) activities including scheduling and cost estimating for complex construction projects in a private, public, government or military environment
- Experience in building teams and leading organizational change
- Proficient knowledge of industry recognized project control systems, scheduling tools, and cost management software.
Work location:
