Your key responsibilities

The Malaysian firm is presently supported by three Malaysian lawyers within the General Counsel’s Office (GCO). The GCO team would like to expand its capability to serve the Malaysian firm by increasing its headcount with a Malaysian lawyer that has 6 to 8 years post-qualification experience.

  • The lawyer should have experience in litigation, with a focus on corporate matters, and be capable of advising teams on managing litigation risk from the negotiation of engagement agreements through to dispute resolution.
  • This includes overseeing and managing external counsel, occasionally drafting and reviewing legal documents, and collaborating with the GCO team to ensure alignment with the firm’s legal strategy.
  • The role also involves conducting and supporting internal investigations related to corporate issues covering fact-finding, documentation, and coordination with relevant stakeholders.
  • Additionally, the lawyer will build and maintain strong relationships with business units to understand their needs, provide tailored legal support, and foster a culture of trust and consultation between the business and the GCO.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in Litigation, primarily Corporate Litigation work
  • Recognized University degree in law or equivalent, with a professional legal qualification
  • Ability to manage multiple highly-complex projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable working in a virtual team environment
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and good presentation skills
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English/Bahasa Malaysia
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and negotiation abilities
