They must be knowledgeable in structural dynamics, material science, systems engineering, and mathematics to develop and implement models that accurately predict the performance of components and assemblies subjected to varying loading conditions. Stress engineers use many tools and techniques to evaluate the behavior of complex systems and components. They may construct mathematical models, create finite element analysis simulations, conduct lab and field tests, and analyze the results of their efforts.
