The packaging manager is a key part of the software development lifecycle. As a packaging manager, you are responsible for understanding the software development process and guiding the deployment of software applications from development to production in a timely and organized manner. You will coordinate with developers and system administrators to ensure that software is deployed properly. You must have a strong technical background in software development and understand the importance of quality control and software versioning.
In addition to recognizing and understanding software versioning, a successful packaging manager must have excellent communication skills, as this position requires frequent communication and coordination with both onsite and remote teams. You must stay abreast of trends in the tech industry and have the ability to forecast any potential conflicts during the release process.
The packaging manager will also be responsible for developing detailed release notes and ensuring the software builds are properly tested and approved before being released. As the release process progresses, you will be responsible for tracking progress and any relevant code changes (i.e. patches, hotfixes, etc.). You must also possess a firm grasp of source control and revision management, as well as automated build and deployment strategies.
Finally, the packaging manager must be able to recognize trends, identify common problems, and proactively address them. This position requires a high degree of communication and organization, and successful packaging managers should be able to adapt to the ever-evolving environment of the tech industry. If you have the requisite knowledge and skills, Expoint is looking for experienced candidates to fill this role.
