They use both their technical skills and analytical abilities to assess a vehicle's condition, diagnose any issues, and make the necessary repairs. This role requires an understanding of automotive safety systems, and the use of specialized equipment such as welding torches, grinders and sanders. Technicians use a variety of methods and techniques to repair vehicle body damage such as welding, hammering, and frame straightening. They must follow the manufacturer’s instructions for each repair and must ensure that the repair is completed according to the manufacturer's standards. Beyond technical expertise, collision technicians must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and be proficient in customer service. They use these skills to explain the required repairs to the customer, answer questions, provide an estimated cost of repairs, and complete the job in a timely manner. Collision technicians provide a valuable and necessary service to repair damaged vehicles, but they also have the great responsibility of ensuring the safety and satisfaction of their customers.
