What We’re Looking For:

  • 8+ years of experience in web application development
  • Experience in designing, developing and supporting scalable, performant and reliable web applications and distributed systems
  • Seasoned in techniques such TDD and BDD
  • Proficient working with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Understanding of relational databases
  • Firm grasp of OTEL and distributed tracing
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented fundamentals
  • Great understanding of the other disciplines in the cross functional team: QAs, Product, and SREs

About the Role:

Senior Sales Engineer, Education to join our Education Team, supporting the Eastern Time Zone, with a focus in Ontario and the northeastern United States.

This role is a critical part of our sales process, bridging the gap between our cutting-edge technology and the specific needs of higher education institutions. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of university architecture, a strong technical background, and excellent communication skills to effectively articulate the value of our software to technical and non-technical audiences. Success in this role depends as much on building trust and long-term relationships as on technical expertise.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Senior Level Engagement: Responsible for senior coverage of primary IT Institutional stakeholders (CTO, CIO, IT Director, etc.), which includes developing trusted advisor relationships that go beyond technical discussions to understanding institutional goals and challenges.
  • Pre-Sales Technical Support: Serve as the primary technical consultant for the sales team, providing collaboration and expert guidance during the entire sales cycle - from initial discovery of unmet needs to building alignment across stakeholders, and helping position solutions that support their institutional strategy.
  • System Architecture Analysis: Proactively engage with IT leadership and technical staff at higher education institutions to understand their existing system architecture, including Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday), and other core platforms.
  • Solution Scoping and Customization: Conduct technical discovery sessions with active listening to identify integration requirements, data workflows, and potential challenges. Translate technical understanding into actionable recommendations that build confidence and credibility for the value of our software and how it can be seamlessly integrated into their specific environment.
  • Product Demonstrations: Prepare, configure, and deliver compelling, tailored technical demonstrations to a wide range of stakeholders, including C-level executives, deans, faculty, and IT administrators. Highlight key features, benefits, and the technical feasibility of implementation.
  • RFP/RFI Management: Partner with the sales team to respond to technical sections of RFPs (Request for Proposals) and RFIs (Request for Information), ensuring accurate and comprehensive responses that showcase our technical capabilities and reflect a clear understanding of each institution’s context and priorities.
  • Technical Client Management: Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with technical contacts at prospective and current clients. Act as a trusted advisor.

What we are looking for:

Frontend: Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, React.js, with testing tools such as Cypress, Playwright.
Architecture: Cloud-native systems, microservices, distributed systems, CI/CD pipelines, design patterns.
Machine Learning/Natural Language Processing a plus: Experience with frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, and LangFlow, as well as techniques like prompt engineering, RAG, and observability in LLM applications.

The Opportunity:


We, at Flywire, are looking for an experienced
Sr. Software Engineer II, ideally with a background in FinTech. Your primary responsibility will be to build and maintain the platform that supports the money movement of our industry leading payment engine moving hundreds of millions everyday.

You will be joining a team in charge of designing new functionalities and improving the current capabilities to improve speed, cost and scalability of our product. Thus, a commitment to collaborative problem solving, pragmatic design, building quality products and to convey the sensation that the product is the responsibility of all the team is essential. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality code in a team defined timeframe.

  • Write clean, high quality, testable, secure, maintainable and extendable code
  • Solve items such as challenging bugs and production issues within the development environment
  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
  • Understand scalability and performance status and make improvement for scalability
  • Drive change and improvement in all phases of the development lifecycle
  • Partake in the recruitment process by identifying and exciting great talent
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications
  • Contribute to the product vision by collaborating with Product Managers and stakeholders
  • Drive initiatives to lead projects as well as mentor team members

What We’re Looking For:

  • 8+ years of experience in web application development
  • Experience in designing, developing and supporting scalable, performant and reliable web applications and distributed systems
  • Seasoned in techniques such TDD and BDD
  • Proficient working with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
  • Understanding of relational databases
  • Firm grasp of OTEL and distributed tracing
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented fundamentals
  • Great understanding of the other disciplines in the cross functional team: QAs, Product, and SREs
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams including product and support
  • Fluent in English, as it is the company’s working language
  • Experience in Travel & Hospitality, FinTech, or the Payment industry will be appreciated
  • The ability to deliver high quality code and learn quickly
  • Local to Boston or Chicago is highly preferred

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $155-175k, restricted stock units, and benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, position level, and location. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
