What You’ll Do
  • Collaborate with project manager and other design engineers to develop robust, safe, and efficient electrical designs for industrial equipment
  • Evaluate and select between various forms of industrial control system hardware to meet machine specific requirements, such as PLCs, I/O, motor controls and network devices
  • Create electrical and pneumatic schematics and bills of materials using EPLAN Electric P8
  • Design custom industrial control panels, including layouts and calculations for loads, heat, and SCCR, and interface with panel shop during the build
  • Manage tight schedules to ensure that control panels and critical commercial parts meet the project build schedule
  • Support assembly and debug operations by providing direction on electrical assembly and troubleshooting issues that arise during build
  • Potential to travel to the Tesla factories to assist with installation and startup
What You’ll Bring
  • 3 or more years of experience in electrical design for custom automation using EPLAN Electric P8 (strongly preferred) or AutoCAD Electrical
  • Strong knowledge of electrical concepts and best practices, including three phase power distribution, control logic, and industrial networking protocols
  • Hands-on experience working with and troubleshooting electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Hands-on experience with a wide range of industrial automation hardware, including PLC hardware (Siemens and Allen-Bradley), VFDs and servomotors, DC control circuits, I/O and field instrumentation, and pneumatic valves and cylinders
  • Proficiency in using US electrical standards NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 79, and UL508A
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience

What You’ll Do
  • Prototyping using overnight machined parts from our fabrication shop
  • Participate in machine risk assessments and ensure safety standards are met
  • Review electrical schematics and assist with hardware definition / architecture
  • Create application design documentation/flow charts and conduct software design reviews
  • Program all software for unique projects with a variety of needs (PLC, HMI/SCADA, Servo, Robotics, Machine Vision, etc.)
  • Test and verify electrical wiring (safety circuits, IO, communications, etc.)
  • Debug and test all software to meet project requirements. Test run equipment to validate software quality and performance
  • Work with assembly personnel and mechanical design engineer to ensure all mechanical setups and alignments are properly completed
  • Work to ensure the project requirements are fulfilled and the equipment performance is excellent before it is shipped to the factory
  • This full-time role requires travel to other Tesla facilities (up to 25-30%)
What You’ll Bring
  • 1 or more years of experience in custom automation
  • PLC controls (Siemens primary, Rockwell Automation secondary)
  • HMI/SCADA (WinCC primary, Ignition secondary)
  • Experience with controls hardware including sensors, remote IO, servos, VFDs, machine vision, barcode readers, etc.
  • Industrial networking protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet TCP/IP, Ethernet I/P, EtherCAT, etc.)
  • Robots: 6-axis (FANUC primary, Kuka secondary)

What You’ll Do
  • Use mechanical design software to create complete mechanical design concepts for robust and low-risk machine designs that will complete the project scope within the budget and schedule parameters defined by the project scope documents
  • Identify areas of risk and work quickly to prototype and mitigate risk
  • Know and understand the project scope, specifications, and any regulatory requirements that are applicable to the machine being developed. This includes executing all company standard operating procedures related to the machine design and build process
  • Complete mechanical design analysis as required to ensure the machine design will meet all project requirements
  • Attend meetings, including project status and review meetings, checkout meetings, and acceptance meetings. This includes leading all internal and design review meetings for the project
  • Create complete, organized, detailed print packages and coordinate and conduct release to fabrication meetings
  • Work with component suppliers to specify and acquire quotes for machine commercial components that are needed for the machine design
  • Keep the Mechanical Engineering Manager and the project manager abreast of all out-of-scope work through thorough execution of Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Support the fabrication, assembly and debug processes for the project as required
  • Lead the mechanical debug activities to ensure the machine assembly and debug phases of the project are completed on schedule
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience with design and development of automated machinery
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs
  • Proficiency in using Solidworks modeling 3D CAD design software. PDM experience is a plus
  • Preferred background from an automation integrator or machine builder/integrator
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with specific ability to write at a professional and technical level
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Up to 20% travel is expected for this position
