Job Overview

Responsibilities
  • Understand the end-to-end operational, financial, and systemic environment and key upstream and downstream processes that drive financial and customer impacts. Drive strategy to support revenue recognition, new offerings, and business changes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce the Company's revenue recognition policy under ASC 606, developing new positions and interpretations as needed. Stay connected to current business and offering strategies.
  • Perform technical accounting research.
  • Clearly articulate point of view regarding revenue issues. Use strong communication skills to inspire confidence in decisions and provide transparency as to status and trade-offs, with the ability to bridge between accounting, technical, and business mindsets with ease.
  • Stay current on evolving Accounting Standards pronouncements and updates under prevailing regulatory bodies (FASB, SEC), incorporating into Company policy as necessary.
  • Apply professional skepticism and an inquisitive approach to review and analyze the appropriateness and reasonableness of underlying revenue accounting principles.
  • Establish and maintain controls necessary to ensure that revenue forecasts, deferred revenue balances, and revenue accounting execution are compliant with Company policy and GAAP.
  • Proactively lead and influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management. Cultivate strong relationships with leaders in Accounting, Finance, and across the business in order to facilitate timely, high-quality decision-making in connection with revenue recognition matters.
  • Develop training and outreach programs and deliver this training to business unit and functional team leaders.
  • Work comfortably with cross functional teams and actively consult with product management, sales, and marketing personnel to ensure revenue recognition timing and process implications are understood for each offering.
  • Ensure the proper accounting treatment for all product and service offerings is documented and that related accounts are properly prepared, reviewed, and substantiated.
  • Streamline systems and reporting tools to ensure efficient and accurate recording and classification of revenue.
  • Participate in revenue recognition due diligence activities related to potential acquisitions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance/Accounting with minimum of 7 years’ post-graduate experience, or equivalent work experience; CPA/MBA highly desirable.
  • Must be able to be onsite in our San Diego office at least 3 times a week.
  • Strong technical accounting and revenue knowledge for financial statements and internal controls over financial reporting. Demonstrated understanding of theory and application of relevant revenue recognition accounting literature.
  • Strong end-to-end process orientation with demonstrated analytical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills. Proactively address issues, own the outcome, and continuously strive for best in class processes and deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Confidence, good judgment, and personality to work in a dynamic, multi-business unit environment. Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, time prioritization, and risk assessment.
  • Professional skepticism and a testing/validation mindset. Background in public accounting or internal audit is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, presentation and influencing skills, including the ability to elevate issues to the right level internally and externally to resolve. Ability to clearly articulate a point of view and adjust communication style and content to suit audience needs.
  • Strong PC, worksheet, and word processing skills. Working knowledge of Oracle R12, Siebel/BRM, and Business Objects a plus.

Reporting directly to the Director of Technical Accounting & Reporting this role is responsible for ensuring compliance with ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) across the Company. As the Senior Manager, Technical Revenue Accounting, you will focus on impactful, complex, revenue-recognition projects that enhance our accounting and reporting capabilities. You will oversee revenue recognition policies, manage complex accounting issues, and provide strategic guidance to ensure accurate financial reporting, including system recommendations to operationalize new contractual relationships or products. This role must possess a strong knowledge of current US GAAP and technical accounting pronouncements and must possess strong analytical skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform and assist in monthly revenue cycle controls including contract reviews, deal support, and collaboration with key stakeholders on seamlessly executing the close process
  • Responsible for the preparation of technical memos on complex contractual arrangements and revenue-related technical accounting matters.
  • Responsible for compliance with ASC 606 requirements, including development and management of SSP analyses
  • Design and implement systems and processes to automate revenue recognition in alignment with revenue recognition policies and objectives
  • Assist in preparation of financial statement disclosures
  • Manage interactions with external auditors for revenue accounting
  • Assist training and educating the business on impacts of ASC 606 on revenue recognition, including supporting forecasting
  • Assist in the creation of effective internal controls for revenue recognition
  • Work with cross-functional teams including Revenue Operations, IT Business Applications, Billing & Collections, FP&A, and Legal
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of combined experience in public accounting, including experience auditing publicly traded global corporations and corporate experience at global, publicly traded growth companies in technical accounting/reporting roles
  • Managerial non-audit experience & working with remote teams is required
  • Deep understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition principles and standards & experience applying revenue recognition principles in complex SaaS or technology arrangements
  • Experience in implementing software tools such as NetSuite ARM for revenue recognition automation
  • Advanced Analytical Skills
  • A proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and to build strong working relationships
  • Demonstrable leadership ability and experience building and working with high performing teams
  • Experience with financial systems including NetSuite, Saleforce, Floqast and others
