This role requires expertise in advanced prototyping, CMF specification, and technical graphics, along with strong problem-solving skills to navigate the evolving nature of product development. The Industrial Designer will work across multiple projects, balancing cost, craftsmanship, and technical feasibility while embracing Ring's design language and long-term strategy.Key job responsibilities
-Lead all stages of the design process, delivering 2D sketches, CMF specifications, technical graphics, advanced 3D models with class-A surfacing, prototypes, and photo-realistic renderings for presentations.-Work closely with engineers and suppliers to develop designs that balance craftsmanship, cost, and engineering feasibility.-Support DFM & DFA processes and create rapid prototypes to validate functional and aesthetic aspects.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in taking a product from conception & definition phase through engineering design and taking it to market
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial Design or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial design, preferably in consumer electronics or related industries.
- Exceptional 2D visualization skills (sketching, storyboarding, digital rendering).
- Advanced 3D CAD modeling skills with experience in developing technically viable and compelling designs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills for effective collaboration with design, engineering, and product teams.
- Deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, DFM, and DFA to ensure efficient production.


Preferred Qualifications

- Proven ability to build and maintain cross-functional relationships while delivering high-quality designs under tight deadlines.
- Strong prototyping skills, from quick foam models to functional validation prototypes.
- Experience collaborating with engineering and product marketing teams for successful product launches.
- Previous experience in consumer electronics design and/or camera device design is a plus.

• Create and present CMF proposals to stakeholders, including development teams and executives
• Collaborate with suppliers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturing feasibility
• Direct prototype development and oversee color/finish matching processes
• Drive material innovation and sustainability initiatives
• Maintain and document CMF specifications and guidelines
• Coordinate with international teams and suppliers, including participation in global meetings
• Build and maintain an internal library of materials and finishes
• Lead advanced material research to support next-generation product development

Basic Qualifications

- Experience with prototyping and implementation
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design or Master's Degree in CMF Design
- 5+ years of professional CMF design experience.
- Proven track record in hardware product development
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Keyshot
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials
- Excellent color acuity (must pass Munsell Hue Color Test)
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Ability to work across time zones and travel internationally


Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in consumer electronics or smart home products
- Knowledge of sustainable materials and manufacturing practices
- Experience working with Asian manufacturers
- Portfolio demonstrating successful CMF implementation in mass-production

- Deep expertise in 3D CAD (including class-A surfacing) and design for manufacture.
- Demonstrated strength in solving mechanical design and development challenges.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with executives, peers, and partners.

- Excellent time management and comfort working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience owning product families or leading design direction across multiple generations of hardware.
