Job Description

As the Chief of Staff for Western Digital’s VP of Corporate Real Estate & Workplace (CREW), you’ll serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor for the VP and play a key leadership role in the organization. With a keen understanding of the business context, you’ll partner to translate business to people needs and establish and govern a diverse portfolio of strategic initiatives. The role requires high-energy, outstanding communication skills, forward-thinking, intimate understanding of the business and operations requirements, and drive to influence accountability and execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and manage the organization’s operational rhythm, allowing for transparency, consistency, and proactive planning.
  • Establish and maintain cadence for key meetings and processes that help drive team and stakeholder connectedness, alignment, and engagement.
  • Lead cross functional strategic and transformational projects, drive workforce planning, and project plan activities for the organization as needed.
  • Manage a team that includes ELT / HQ liaison and CREW Financial Management (oversight of OPEX and CapEx processes).
  • Influence a network of stakeholders driving engagement improvements and process simplification wherever possible.
  • Curate a network of internal and external stakeholders that complement and provide insight to advance the WDC & CREW agenda.
  • Foster a culture of trust, strengths-based development, healthy debate, and inclusion for all
  • Provide partnership across teams for the organization of cross company projects / reporting / initiatives.

Communications Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a strategic communicator to shape and amplify the voice of the CREW organization.

  • Craft and drive the narrative for CREW’s vision, strategy, and key results across internal and external audiences.
  • Lead all CREW communications, championing change and embedding best practices.
  • Serve as the strategic liaison with Corporate Communications to ensure alignment between business goals and messaging.
  • The CoS works closely with EVP’s and CoS of Finance, Global Operations and ELT; communication partners and business leaders across the enterprise, as well as our external vendors and partners.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of relevant work experience in a global, diverse organization
  • 8 or more years in a strategic business or consulting role with a focus on talent operations, strategy and planning, or organizational change
  • Demonstrated success leading large, complex projects with multi-function stakeholders and Teams

PREFERRED

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to see the big picture, balancing short- and long-term objectives.
  • Most importantly, the ability to interpret business strategy, connect it to the people priorities and see them through to successful implementation

Reports to the Treasury Manager.

This role will support the company’s global Capital Market / FX activities, including managing/gathering currency exposures, executing FX transactions, analyzing market trends, preparing FX impact analysis reports, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, and improving processes. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of FX markets, treasury operations, accounting, and risk management principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • FX Trade Execution: Assist in executing foreign exchange transactions, including spot, forward, NDF, and swap contracts, to hedge currency exposures.
  • Exposure Management: Monitor and analyze foreign currency exposures across global operations and recommend hedging strategies.
  • Market Analysis: Track FX market trends, economic indicators, and geopolitical developments to provide insights on currency risks and opportunities.
  • Cash Flow Forecasting: Support FX-related cash flow forecasting to ensure adequate liquidity and minimize currency risk.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Prepare FX exposure reports, hedge performance analyses, and variance reports for management.
  • Compliance & Controls: Ensure FX activities comply with company policies, accounting standards (e.g., ASC 830), and regulatory requirements.
  • Bank & Counterparty Relations: Coordinate with banking partners and FX trading platforms to optimize execution and pricing.
  • Process Improvement: Assist in developing and enhancing treasury systems, automation tools, and processes related to FX management.
  • Debt & Capital Markets Support: Assist in managing/servicing the company’s debt portfolio, including Term Loans, Bonds, credit facilities, and loan agreements.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field
  • 1+ years of experience in treasury, FX trading, or financial risk management
  • Strong understanding of finance, FX markets, derivatives, and hedging strategies
  • Ability to quickly understand complex transactions
  • Knowledge of the banking industry and technical knowledge of bank products and foreign exchange

Preferred

  • CTP / CFA Professional Designation
  • Experience with Oracle, FXall, Capella, and Quantum FIS TMS

Skills

  • Set up transformation program office
    • Support the leader in setting up the transformation office and building a matrixed team of workstream leads across the company including an efficient governance model. Support day-to-day transformation program level decisions, track and report results, and coordinate governance process for assigned initiatives.
  • Support transformation program implementation
    • Collaborate with initiative/workstream owners and cross-functional teams to execute the company wide transformation program.
    • Ensure initiatives move into implementation and drive fast, pragmatic execution.
    • Lead the actual execution of specific initiatives in partnership with workstream owners
    • Serve as a support function to workstream owners, allowing line functions to focus on efficient implementation.
  • Lead transformation program reporting
    • Track and report initiative progress to create transparency and enable better, faster decision-making and results predictability, both for initiative teams and for senior executive leadership consumption.
    • Ensure consistency between internal discussions and Board updates.

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; MBA/MS from top tier institution preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with strong exposure to strategic transformation, experience in top tier management consulting/investment bank followed by technology company preferred
  • Proven experience in successfully orchestrating/program-managing complex, company-wide, cross-functional transformation programs and delivering results at or beyond expectations.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced “private equity like” environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

As the Chief of Staff for Western Digital’s VP of Corporate Real Estate & Workplace (CREW), you’ll serve as a strategic thought partner and advisor for the VP and play a key leadership role in the organization. With a keen understanding of the business context, you’ll partner to translate business to people needs and establish and govern a diverse portfolio of strategic initiatives. The role requires high-energy, outstanding communication skills, forward-thinking, intimate understanding of the business and operations requirements, and drive to influence accountability and execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and manage the organization’s operational rhythm, allowing for transparency, consistency, and proactive planning.
  • Establish and maintain cadence for key meetings and processes that help drive team and stakeholder connectedness, alignment, and engagement.
  • Lead cross functional strategic and transformational projects, drive workforce planning, and project plan activities for the organization as needed.
  • Manage a team that includes ELT / HQ liaison and CREW Financial Management (oversight of OPEX and CapEx processes).
  • Influence a network of stakeholders driving engagement improvements and process simplification wherever possible.
  • Curate a network of internal and external stakeholders that complement and provide insight to advance the WDC & CREW agenda.
  • Foster a culture of trust, strengths-based development, healthy debate, and inclusion for all
  • Provide partnership across teams for the organization of cross company projects / reporting / initiatives.

Communications Responsibilities:

We’re looking for a strategic communicator to shape and amplify the voice of the CREW organization.

  • Craft and drive the narrative for CREW’s vision, strategy, and key results across internal and external audiences.
  • Lead all CREW communications, championing change and embedding best practices.
  • Serve as the strategic liaison with Corporate Communications to ensure alignment between business goals and messaging.
  • The CoS works closely with EVP’s and CoS of Finance, Global Operations and ELT; communication partners and business leaders across the enterprise, as well as our external vendors and partners.

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of relevant work experience in a global, diverse organization
  • 8 or more years in a strategic business or consulting role with a focus on talent operations, strategy and planning, or organizational change
  • Demonstrated success leading large, complex projects with multi-function stakeholders and Teams

PREFERRED

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to see the big picture, balancing short- and long-term objectives.
  • Most importantly, the ability to interpret business strategy, connect it to the people priorities and see them through to successful implementation
