ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position is on a team that does power characterization and performance analysis of Western Digital storage drives. The candidate will design, implement, document, and validate test automation framework improvements, test scripts, and bug fixes
  • Power Characterization Test Engineers are responsible for configuring systems for test, then monitoring and analyzing drive logs, performance data, system logs, bus signals, etc., to determine test status
  • Problems are then isolated, analyzed, and documented as they occur. The engineer may be responsible for developing and maintaining test scripts and automation.
  • Actively participate in SAFe Agile methodology, including Daily Stand Up, Iteration Planning/Retrospective/Review, and Program Increment Planning/Retrospective
  • Participate in feature demonstrations to end users and management

This is a co-op position and will last up to 8 months (January-August) based on individual university calendars.

The hourly rate for this position, based on year in school and other factors, will be $32.19-$36.11/hour.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Students pursuing a Bachelor's degree majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related major. The ideal candidate will graduate in 2027.
  • Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case to employ you at any point in the future required (for example, H-1B or other employment-based immigration case)
  • Application-level scripting/programming (Perl, Tcl, Python, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux-based systems via command line
  • Solid communication skills
  • Passion for problem-solving and learning new things

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a department supporting multiple customers in the customer validation organization of the SIT Lab to higher level of customer satisfaction by meeting customer expectations and commitments to the business through continuous improvement of organizational processes and operational excellence.
  • Contribute to the creation of organizational plans and objectives focused on meeting customer expectations.
  • Facilitate setting of department objectives consistent with the organizational goals. Assess and report progress on Department objectives.
  • Stays abreast of daily operations of the department and works to remove blockers for the team as necessary.
  • Responsible for department staffing and resource needs based on upcoming roadmaps and customer engagement.
  • Ensure department is providing appropriate input to organizational budget development.
  • Monitoring of department expenses.
  • Work closely with customers and customer facing teams (Customer Technical Support, Customer Quality Management, and Marketing) to understand customer expectations for upcoming products. Capture insights and share internally.
  • Evaluate and assess product readiness against customer requirements and represent the customer in new product development.
  • Partner with customer through joint qualification of our Enterprise products to accelerate time to market and provide field issue support.
  • Provide periodic communication to the team and management to ensure organizational alignment
  • Collaborate with other SIT Lab teams to deliver on program commitments
  • Build sense of trust with department members & with external organizational interfaces by providing useful feedback on a regular basis
  • Enable an environment where healthy conflict is acceptable to ensure all ideas are brought forward
  • Hold stakeholders, internal & external, accountable to commitments - Work across organizational boundaries to ensure actions & processes are in the best interest of the company

REQUIRED:

  • BS in an Engineering or Computer Science field
  • 6+ years of leading and managing a large teams
  • 3+ years experience with customer management
  • Experience with financial and resource planning and forecasting
  • Ability to foster strong customer relationships
  • A willingness to work to consensus without impacting business & personal principles
  • An understanding of customer validation to ensure the correct priority calls are made
  • Strategic thinking to ensure long-term success of the team

SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational leadership and communication skills at 1:1 & large group levels
  • Organizational and systems thinking skills to recognize when change is required to improve efficiency & clarity

  • This position is on a team that verifies the compatibility of Western Digital storage drives in enterprise customer system environments.
  • System integration test engineers work closely with development engineering and customer technical support to ensure the quality of the product's design and to verify that the product works flawlessly in the customer's systems.
  • System integration test engineers are responsible for configuring customer systems for test, then monitoring and analyzing performance data, drive logs, system logs, bus signals, etc. to determine test status.
  • Problems are then isolated, analyzed, and documented as they occur.
  • The engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining test scripts and automation.
  • Responsibilities also include the creation of test schedules, writing reports, and communicating written and verbal status.
Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Qualified candidates are new graduates who have earned a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with graduation date between May 2024-August 2025.
  • The candidate is someone who can manage impromptu test scheduling and reallocation of test resources on the fly.
  • Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case to employ you at any point in the future required (for example, H-1B or other employment-based immigration case)

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of, or strong interest in, current Computer Industry systems and storage controller products and technologies.
  • The candidate shall have the ability to perform detailed analysis of test data and test failures and independently investigate system hardware and software issues to determine root cause.
  • Skills and/or prior experience should also include:
    • Application-level programming or scripting (Python, Java, C++, C#, etc.)
    • Ability to understand and debug interface protocols (SATA, SAS)
    • Windows and Linux server storage environments
    • Willingness to take on complex problems and investigate
    • Organization and the ability to plan ahead
    • Strong verbal and written communication
    • Comfortable with speaking about technical topics with customers and or internal entities
