In this role, you will set and operate various Toolmaking activities including various CNC, NC and manual machines in the manufacture, assembly, maintenance and repair of plastic injection & elastomer moulds, press-tools and other tooling components. You will demonstrate and use a proactive mindset in order to actively develop processes to increase automation and utilisation of equipment. Responsible for supporting and contributing to Lean Sigma programs and activities, whilst supporting Technical Leaders and Managers to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives. You would also be expected to Mentor and share best practices with less experienced colleagues. You will comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set & operate CNC/NC grinders including surface, centerless, cylindrical and jig grinders
  • Set & operate NC and manual lathes and mills
  • Set & operate EDM and WEDM machinery
  • Final assembly activities and processes for new plastic and elastomer injection/compression moulds and press-tools
  • Problem solving, repair, maintenance and modification of existing tooling
  • Provide technical support to design & production contractors and site CADCAM & production staff
  • Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures and regulations
  • Define and comply with appropriate process control plans
  • Comply with all machine instructions and ensure proper use of equipment and assets
  • Comply with process work instructions, maintenance and safety schedules
  • Read, understand & be able to challenge Engineering drawings
  • Act in accordance with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Guiding Principles

Basic Qualifications:

  • Required: Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level/City and Guilds or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Desirable: Higher National Certificate in Engineering Discipline

  • Assist with employee on-boarding, ensuring robust plans are in place for all new hires.
  • Take responsibility for the short term absence management process, ensure timely meetings and make referrals to Occupational Health

  • Take responsibility for providing advice and guidance relating to disciplinary and grievance procedures

Job Summary

To undertake a structured training programme both at the St Austell site and at a local training facility in the form of an apprenticeship to enable the successful candidate to:

  • Learn the skills and knowledge required to safely maintain and repair manufacturing equipment, that is used to produce elastomer products for pharmaceutical packaging systems.

  • Be aware and follow all relevant Procedures and Instructions as per company policy that applies to the position covered by this job description.
  • Carry out both electrical & mechanical fault diagnosis, investigation and problem solving in the event of breakdowns for all site machinery.
  • Maintaining equipment and services by carrying out planned maintenance and improvements.
  • Undertake projects as directed by the Engineering Management.
  • Manage, track and record all work on the maintenance management system (MMS).
  • Undertake training and carry-out continuous improvement using lean sigma tools.
Education
  • Required: Minimum Grade 4 GCSE Mathematics, GCSE English, GCSE Science – or equivalent.
  • Desirable: Currently undergoing Engineering based training.
Work Experience
  • No minimum experience required
  • Experience operating drill press, band saws, hand tools and grinding/abrasive tools with a mechanical / electrical background is an advantage

Job Summary

In this role, you will create, modify and verify CAM programs, whilst supporting CAD activity, for the manufacture and repair of elastomer & plastic moulds, press-tools and other tooling components.You will demonstrate and use a proactive learning mindset in order to support process development to increase automation and utilisation of equipment, supporting and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities, whilst supporting colleagues and Managers to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives.You will comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creation, modification and verification of 3, 4 & 5-axis programs and supporting information, for a range of processes, machine tools and CNC control programming languages
  • Preparation, issuing and control of detailed 2D drawings, 3D models and associated production documentation in accordance with global industry standards and expectations
  • Utilise and support CNC machine tool network
  • Follow CADCAM processes in order to accurately convey drawing and production information to all other departments
  • Prepare and collate job packs to distribute to other departments
  • Record construction information and feedback from production for quality purposes, process development and report and escalate issues to prevent future occurrences, and help resolve where appropriate
  • Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures and regulations
  • Communicate information with Global Design team and site production staff
  • Comply with all machine instructions and ensure proper use of equipment and assets
  • Comply with all process work instructions, control plans, maintenance and safety schedules

  • Set & operate NC and manual lathes and mills
  • Set & operate EDM and WEDM machinery

  • Problem solving, repair, maintenance and modification of existing tooling
  • Provide technical support to design & production contractors and site CADCAM & production staff
