The Commercial Project Manager (CPM) - Finance Controller (Southeast Zone) position is based in Raleigh, North Carolina and is a hybrid position.

The Commercial Project Manager (CPM)– Finance Controller will be responsible for commercial aspects related to projects —from the sales phase to execution to project completion. Responsibilities encompass sales controlling, performance measurement, planning, forecasting, and reporting. The CPM supports the Project Manager in all other areas where a takeover of responsibilities is decided and/or a useful contribution. The CPM will partner with Customers, Suppliers, Project Managers/ Engineers, Sales, Procurement, Legal, other Commercial Project Managers, regional and national Finance colleagues, and internal and external Auditors--as well as the Siemens Financial Services Division (the Siemens entity that offers financing solutions to clients).


Responsibilities:

  • Follow Limits of Authority (LoA) process during bid phase including assessment of contractual terms and conditions (with legal dept), evaluation of risks and their adequate consideration in bid calculation. Ensures compliance with LoA approval during project execution.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant internal and external guidelines such as Business Conduct Guidelines, Financial Reporting Guidelines (IFRS, US-GAAP), PM@Siemens, tax, export control, EHS, ICFR / RIC requirements, signature authorities
  • Ensure proper financial project set-up including work breakdown structure (WBS) in line with agreed project budget based on the planned delivery schedule and ensure accuracy of calculation and records throughout the project execution phase
  • Partner with the Project Manager in managing and optimizing targeted financial results with due professional care (e.g. project gross profit, cash flow, assets, opportunity management and financing instruments)
  • Perform financial budgeting and forecasting, controlling (cost-to-complete, total forecasted vs. planned costs), reconciliation of project cash flow, and constant deviation analysis actual vs plan
  • Prepare and present commercial topics in the project status meetings with relevant stakeholders including escalation of critical topics, if required
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on change management (plan cost adjustments, variations, claims). identify and minimize non-conformance costs, conduct root cause analysis and define corrective and preventive measures. Obtain verification and approval of variations / claims prior to submittal to the customer / supplier ensuring appropriate costing and pricing in accordance with internal guidelines
  • Partner with the Project Manager in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks & opportunities, strategies, and response activities. Constantly assess risks& opportunities and their impact in the project calculation while proposing measures to prevent negative margin slippage
  • Implement and drive measures together with the Project Manager to leverage opportunities to improve the project performance, e.g. through claims and variation management. Collaborate Project Manager to ensure Project Quality based on Siemens guidelines and achievement of project goals
  • Ensure timely issuing of invoices with a strong focus on managing receivables, reducing project assets and maximizing project cash flow
  • Drive Procurement together with the Project Manager by involving the responsible purchasing representative to ensure that the purchase orders are based on the best available bids, within the set budget and terms and conditions are in line with the customer contract
  • Coordinate other contractual requirements (e.g., performance guarantees, insurances, taxes, sureties) to comply with contract commitments
  • Actively communicate with customers’ commercial representatives and manage customer expectations and resolution of commercial issues
  • Influence team to take positive action and assume accountability for assigned work packages
  • Conduct regular lessons-learned reviews on commercial aspects, incorporating insights into project improvements and organizational best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Experience: 4+ years of work experience in commercial project controlling/management in complex construction projects
  • Successfully work a Hybrid Role
  • Required travel: 10-20%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business administration.
  • Proficiency with related SAP modules.
