Security Systems Engineer – Regional Accounts

With us you will

  • Lead all technical aspects of a sales cycle with the customer, from the initial RFIs, through to RFPs & RFQs when required. This includes the project management and active participation in POCs in partnership with the relevant teams both internally and within the customer and/or commercial partner.
  • Have the ability to listen and to understand the technical requirements of the customer, reading between the lines to build a solution which outperforms the competitor offering.
  • Be the primary technical point of contact and the trusted advisor for our customer(s)
  • Have a strong ability to position Fortinet solutions to the customer, whether this be remotely or in person. This requires strong communication skills and the ability to confidently present through whiteboarding, technical white papers, technical plans or customer discussions.
  • Maintain accurate activity, contact, and account technical information of all customers and prospects.

Apply if you

  • 2+ years of experience in technical/pre-sales support as a sales or systems engineer working with enterprise customers, preferable at a vendor
  • BSc in computer science, equivalent or equivalent experience
  • Pre-Sales experience in security solutions including, but not limited to firewalls, security proxies, endpoint protection
  • Experience and knowledge of modern security threats
  • Have strong analytical skills to evaluate complex problems
  • Used to work and organize yourself independently
  • Have strong presentation skills towards technical and non-technical audiences
  • Are fluent in German

In this key role a Systems Engineer will work closely with a sales representative in a defined district. The Systems Engineer's main mission will be to support the sales organization in all technical matters regarding pre-sales, sales activities, and selected post-sales activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Understanding of the Fortinet portfolio with the ability to demonstrate and articulate technical and business value.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in security and networking technology and specifically in our “core technology”, FortiOS-based products.

· Subject Matter Expert and first contact in an assigned technical domain within or across assigned sales district. Manage domain use cases, competitive intelligence, and differentiation. Excellent product integration & customization skills including relevant 3rdparty integrations.

  • Create sales opportunities by identifying solutions to customer problems and assist in qualifying sales leads from a technical perspective. Discover opportunities to upsell and cross-sell Fortinet solutions. Initiate and influence project decisions.
  • Manage and lead all aspects of the technical sales engagement from general queries to demos, RfX, and PoC’s around features, specifications, and functionality to integration. Provide architecture and implementation design consultation and best practice guidance for strategic opportunities.
  • Act as trusted advisor for assigned accounts and maintain the technical relationship with the customer. Discover opportunities to upsell and cross-sell Fortinet solutions. Work closely with the regional escalation manager, technical support team and engineering to ensure customer's technical issues are answered and resolved.
  • Collaborate with peers, Consulting System Engineers (CSE’s), Solution Architects, Business Consultants, Professional Services and/or Partners on complex opportunities. Capture and manage customer requirements through the Consulting System Engineering Team to Product Management.
  • Support PreSales, Sales & Channel enablement activities and events.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pre-sales support with proven success.
  • Expert level knowledge in networking (LAN, WIFI, WAN, SDN, routing, switching), and network security (Next-Gen Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, encryption protocols).

· Strong customer focus to address complex technical and business requirements with a self-motivated, positive attitude. Goal-driven, adapting to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

  • Ability to interface with senior levels of internal / external organizations is required.
  • Expert level verbal & written communication, presentation, prioritization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Deep level experience in installation and configuration of network devices, systems (UNIX/Linux, Windows-based, virtualized and containers), public-clouds, and scripting (ideally Ansible, Terraform, Python with good knowledge of APIs).
  • Knowledge of the following domains is a plus:

o Datacenter architectures (e.g. ACI, NSX-T)

o Security Architectures (e.g. Zero Trust, SASE)

o Modern Software Architectures (e.g. DevOps, IaC)

o Cloud Architectures with at least one public cloud specialization

o Security Operations (e.g. Orchestration, Automation, SIEM Tools)

o IT Security standards (e.g. BSI 200-x, ISO2700x, COBIT, NIST) and/or relevant regulations (EU-DSGVO, BDSG, NIS-2/KRITIS).

  • Excellent German and English language skills.
  • Willingness to travel 20-50% of time.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Graduate degree preferred.

The primary role of a Systems Engineering Manager is to provide leadership and guidance to a highly skilled Systems Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Work closely with the sales account leaders on strategic plans to maintain, secure, and grow the Fortinet footprint.
  • Manage and align key features and functionality that are instrumental to business success.
  • Work closely with the escalation management teams.
  • Strive to develop strong relationships within the team, internally at a corporate level, and externally with key customers and partners.
  • Manage and coordinate with the relevant teams to deliver winning contract bids and RFx responses.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing within the team and across the other sales verticals.
  • Embrace and apply organization processes, methodologies and processes in leading and managing the team.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing a team of sales or systems engineers for a HW/SW vendor
  • Minimum of 5 yearsexperience as a sales or systems engineer for a HW/SW vendor in the Enterprise segment
  • Minimum of 5 years general IT infrastructure, networking or cyber security industry experience, including a practicing knowledge of the following:
    • Cloud (AWS, GCP and Azure)
      or
    • Routing, Switching, VPN (IPSEC/SSL), LAN, WAN, Network
      or
    • Endpoint Security, , Antivirus & ATP
      or
    • Intrusion Detection, SOC, SIEM & SOAR
  • Thorough understanding of the pre-sales engineering process and sales processes.
  • Experience in managing technical projects and leading teams of highly technical individuals.
  • Demonstrated strong written, oral and presentation skills in German and English. Knowledge of French or Swiss German is an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to discuss technical concepts with a variety of audiences whilst adapting to their level of competence and interest, including executive level technical decision-makers.
  • Travel: In Territory - 95%, Out of Territory - 5%

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree or technical degree of a university of applied science or equivalent experience. Graduate degree is an advantage, but not a requirement.
