What We Offer

Applied Materials’ Systems Engineering C&F is searching for an intern to join our team in summer 2026! This team is involved in system design, analysis, and product development. The position will entail the following:

  • Completion of finite element analysis assignments that estimate the structural and modal characteristics of engineering designs.
  • Working with system engineers, supporting measurement and analysis efforts associated with new system, or sub-system design.
  • Maintain testing equipment and completing annual calibration procedures.
  • Write procedures or test plans for data collection as needed.
  • Accessing the machine control system remotely, extracting data from the database, creating reports, presenting findings to the vibration team.
  • Completing a research project that will expand best known methods. Publish articles on Applied Wiki (internal online encyclopedia).
  • Bi-weekly meetings with supervisor to review status of assigned projects.
  • Assisting with other Team projects, tasks, and activities.

Requirements

  • Student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or manufacturing preferred
  • Quick learner

2026 Summer Internship program start/end dates:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine assignments aligned with entry-level professional engineering roles.

  • Learn and utilize Applied Materials’ engineering change control system.
  • Design and create new parts for prototype testing.
  • Optimize and improve existing components to reduce cost and enhance performance.

  • Work under instruction, guidance, and direction while demonstrating self-driven, hands-on initiative.

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • In good academic standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or manufacturing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Creo and Ansys is a plus but not required.

  • Typical activities include: concept generation, detailed design in 3D CAD packages (NX, Creo,Solidworks, and Inventor), detailed drawing and bill of material documentation,cabling,assembly & test of equipment (your own designs as well as others), present in design reviews to the group, review other people’s designs in design reviews, operating equipment in our machine shop (CNC, lathe, saw, brake, etc.), conduct experiments, analyze data, analyze designs (FEA), work with supply chain to purchase materials,troubleshoot equipment, write code, modify existing code,participate in safety reviews, attend training (safety, CAD, etc.) and yes, sweep the floor from time to time.

  • If you have skills inprogrammingwe may also involve you in our thruput simulation software efforts and/or our virtual reality software efforts (mostly learning how to use it, learning how to program it,modifyit,etc
