This role will be based remotely in the United States.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive product strategy and roadmap for MongoDB's Stream Processing and Streaming products
  • Drive developer relations and marketing strategies to increase awareness, adoption, and engagement with MongoDB's Stream Processing and Streaming products, working closely with internal marketing teams to leverage developer advocacy, educational content, events, and community engagement initiatives
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, customers, partners, and industry experts to enhance MongoDB's event-based products, including the Kafka Connector, Atlas Stream Processing, and new products
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the streaming space
  • Gather and analyze feedback, usage data, and market insights to drive product improvements
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to align product requirements, go-to-market strategies, and customer success initiatives
  • Deeply understand stream processing principles like consistency guarantees, continuous processing, durability, and availability guarantees for event-based architectures
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure technical feasibility, performance, and scalability of streaming systems
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies in streaming data, stream processing, and database space
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in product management or a deeply technical customer-facing role, focusing on streaming and stream processing systems
  • Deep expertise in streaming systems like Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Pulsar as well as expertise in database systems like MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL or others

We’re seeking a Lead Engineer for the Atlas Stream Processing team to provide technical direction, direct architecture decisions, and implement core parts of the new stream processing architecture that GA’d in the summer of 2024. enables processing streams of complex data using the same data model and Query API used in Atlas databases.

Position Expectations
  • Manage a team of software engineers, responsible for ensuring their success, aiding their career growth, and facilitating their technical work
  • Make coding contributions to the team’s projects
  • Work with product managers, program managers, design & analytics teams and other teams to define, prioritize and deliver new features that delight our users and drive platform improvements
  • Take responsibility for the planning and execution of major features, raise delivery risks
  • Own the monitoring, operations, and maintenance of the systems your team develops
  • Enable the team to operate efficiently by removing technical obstacles, coordinating with other teams on dependencies, and prioritizing the team's overall well-being
  • Contribute to planning for organizational growth, including allocation of engineering resources, participate in hiring and assignment of projects
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience of building distributed systems, and/or foundational cloud services at scale and experience with a compiled language (Java, C#, Go, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of 3+ engineers and providing technical leadership
  • Track record in hiring, mentoring, and growing high-performing software engineering teams, experience working with remote teams and a passion for mentoring and career development of the team
  • Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills and desire to collaborate with colleagues, other teams, and lead projects
  • Strong background in building core components for data processing systems (including query execution, storage engines, autotuning and workload optimization) and distributed systems
  • Have led the launch of new features and maintained them in production
  • Bonus points for experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (eg. Kubernetes) and observability tools
  • Be a force multiplier in our software development process. Enable teams to deliver great products through leadership and technical contributions

Success Measures
  • In the first month, you’ll have understood the surface area, the high level architecture of the Atlas Stream Processing. You’ll have initiated one-on-one’s with your team members.
  • In three months, you’ll have on-boarded onto the team and contributed to the design and development of a feature
  • In six months, you will have taken on full responsibility for projects slated for the subsequent quarter. You’ll have started growth conversations with your team members and begun to understand their longer-term career aspirations
  • In twelve months, you’ll have led the development of multiple new features and performed a full annual cycle of performance and growth conversations with your team members. Additionally, you’ll have contributed to the vision for the future of the Atlas Streams team and helped develop a plan to achieve that vision

This challenging role will require someone who deeply understands and can architect signal processing algorithms with Large Foundation models to advance the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to the Wireless Communications market. Practical experience in the use and the building of adaptive signal processing algorithms, models and tools will be critical.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will be a key member of a growing software team that can architect, analyze, develop and prototype key deep learning algorithms and solutions.

  • Partner with our 6G team to apply AI optimizations in algorithms for Radio Access Networks (RAN) and Packet Core (6GC).

  • Work and collaborate with different software, research, and hardware teams across geographies for solving critical problems.

  • Understand and analyze the interplay of hardware and software architectures on future applications.

  • Support engagements with customers and their third-party software providers, collaboration with Product Managements, Marketing, and Developer Technology teams.

What we need to see:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.

  • 12+ years of extensive experience in Deep Learning, Machine Learning and Signal Processing.

  • A strong foundation and understanding of DSP fundamentals is required, including knowledge of adaptive signal processing and communications theory that includes frequency domain filtering and processing and noise reduction.

  • Algorithm development experience and knowledge of deep learning concepts and architectures like CNN's, Transformers and Large Language Models is a significant plus.

  • Prior experience developing 5G RAN algorithms, performance optimizations and benchmarking, acceleration architecture etc is a definite plus

  • Experience working with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch and Scikit-learn is critical.
