Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Lead and manage Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Utilities, and Facilities functions to ensure uninterrupted operations and compliance with safety and quality standards.
Management of Process engineering for the facility. Process engineering includes process improvement, process documentation and processes controls.
Direct responsibility for functional strategic planning, including establishing and managing budgets for one or more departments in the immediate organization or the next higher organizational tier. Approves assigned programs and budget deviations as well as overall resources to meet business objectives.
Determines priorities, timetables and assigns resources/tasks. Accountable for the activities and results of their functional area.
Provides direct supervision to higher level professionals and lower-level managers which include objective setting, performance management, and motivating, as well as training and coaching.
Creates solutions for complex and multi-faceted problems, which requires ingenuity, creativity, innovation, and strong analytical skills.
Utilizes resources across work areas, departments and businesses to create solutions.
Supervise installation, commissioning, and maintenance of production and utility equipment to support production targets
Responsible for establishing and enforcing multiple concepts relative to the function. Working tasks might include: Develops manufacturing strategies in conjunction with fellow business leaders to ensure achievement of business objectives. Adjusts manufacturing strategies to meet changing market conditions for a medium to large sized manufacturing operation. Implements manufacturing standards and defines guidelines for assigned manufacturing disciplines such as engineering, production, quality, etc.
Forecasts facility and manpower requirements, typically for one manufacturing site
Assures plant equipment and processes have adequate capabilities to meet business and technology needs for production
Coordinates operating activities so that approved products are manufactured on schedule and within quality standards and cost objectives
Ensures maximum efficiency and productivity of production facility through just-in-time concepts and/or other cost reduction methodologies.
Actively participates in relevant corporate programs/initiatives, complies with professional and quality standards, complies with corporate policies and procedures, and acts in a manner consistent with 3M’s values and ethical standards.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
Ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a private, public, government or military environment .
Five (5) years of combined experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing setting in a private, public or military environment.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Expert/master knowledge and experience with the most current theories and practices in one or more related professional disciplines such as production, quality, engineering, materials control, warehousing, maintenance, health/safety/environment, etc.
Broad knowledge of multiple related disciplines. Comprehensive knowledge of 3M’s global strategy, business areas, structure and organization, as well as of the external market (competitors, trends, etc.).

Effective verbal and written communication skills with teammates, management, and across functions.
Being able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to work in a clean room environment including wearing the required PPE for long periods of time.
Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing process and/or thin film deposition.
Experience with vacuum systems, compressed gases, RF power, PLC & computer systems strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience working in quality-controlled environment, specifically FDA-regulated medical product manufacturing or another relevant environment.
Demonstrated strong problem-solving / equipment troubleshooting skills.
Mechanical, facilities and/or maintenance experience.
Experience working in a cleanroom environment.
Lean / Six Sigma experience.

Responsible for the daily preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of manufacturing equipment. Processing equipment includes Wet etching, Dry etching, and Photolithography, PVD, PECVD, and Chemical plating processes.
Perform support for tracking/trending of the systems for control and increased system uptime.
Troubleshooting electronics on process equipment.
Perform trouble shooting, program reloading, and minor PLC or HMI programing for various type controllers and interfaces.
Perform repair and maintenance on system robotics.
Process knowledge of high vacuum processing equipment, to be able to troubleshoot, repairs, and optimize uptime.
Maintain complete and accurate records of all work and provide data for formal reports (oral and written) as required.
Develop SOPs, work instructions, and execute training plans as required.
Use judgment to determine proper troubleshooting steps or improvement to processes.
Collaborate with other departments in the planning & execution of duties to ensure the orderly flow of material and information.
Adjust variables as directed, take specified data, and bring equipment irregularities to the attention of the supervisor. Make a variety of specified measurements and manipulations with skill.
From detailed instructions, set up or modify equipment, calibrate and operate equipment.
May participate in quality control inspections.
Work with Facilities Manager, engineers, supervisors, and other managers to improve quality and process efficiency.
Understand and execute LO/TO principles.
Comply with all EHS and Quality procedures and policies.
Associate Degree in Applied Science field plus 3 years or more of related experience; or any Associate Degree plus 4 years or more of related experience; or a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Sciences field; OR High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years or more of related experience OR equivalent overall related experience and/or education in lieu of specific degrees.
Demonstrated project management & project execution skills.

Key Responsibilities
Prepares wafers for experimentation to include cleaning. Loads wafers, prepares reactor for experimentation and cleans reactors. Checks performance of process system.
- Prepares cross section samples for scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis.
Operates reactor to perform thin film process, under supervision.
- Operate scanning electron microscope (SEM) for cross section and top view or critical dimension (CD) or energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis / imaging pending on job assignment, identify most of patterns of interest, understand image quality requirement.
Records process conditions and experimental observations.
- Understand basic scanning electron microscope (SEM)principle.
Responsible for multiple technology products.
- Perform scanning electron microscope (SEM) system software alignment functions.
Evaluates wafers and thin films.
- Perform routine maintenance procedures, flash, plasma clean etc.
Develops skillful use of laboratory process equipment and instrumentation.
- Interface with requestors, understand their detail requirement, and communicate on results.
Orders equipment and supplies, and coordinates with vendors and purchasing.
Other Requirements:This is a physically demanding position that often requires extensive walking, standing for extended periods of time, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting up to 35 lbs., the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and the use of hand and power tools.
Additionally, because this position generally involves working in a clean room, it requires the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment such as coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, chemical aprons, and face shields.

- Prepares wafers for experiment. Build, split, assign, and dispatch wafers per fab policies.
- Evaluates performance of processes using wSPC chart systems.
- Coordinate with onsite NY Creates operations to efficiently process, measure, and ship wafers.
- Operate EPI tool both in manual mode or via Si view independently based on different projects.
- Record process conditions and experimental observations.
- Prepare graphs and tables to summarize results for reports.
- Coordinate with engineers, understand their detailed requirements, and communicate on results; - Monitor wafer in process (WIP) and maintain throughput.
- Perform routine shut down procedure. Identify problem, put tool down and request assistance as needed.
