This position is based at our Buffalo Research Laboratories in Buffalo, NY, where you will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of synthetic chemistry while working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.

Honeywell considers various factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, key skills, as well as market and business considerations.
• Work in a team of synthetic chemists to generate novel molecules and/or compositions for new applications.
• Design, plan, and execute synthetic routes for the proposed novel molecules.
• Closely collaborate with the Physical Properties, Modeling and Applications teams to characterize new molecule design criteria, properties and evaluate application performance.
• Conduct bench scale chemistry experiments, safely and efficiently, and scale-up of novel molecules for customer sampling, properties and applications testing.
• Effectively document and communicate results and project progress to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to research technicians in the team.
• Strict adherence to established safety policies and procedures. Must be able wear all types of PPE and respiratory equipment as appropriate.


• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
• 4+ years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry
• Ph.D. in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry)
• Postgraduate and/or industrial hands-on experience in the design and synthesis of small molecules.
• Design, develop and execute experiment protocols to evaluate concepts of synthetic chemistry including isolation and characterization of molecules via analytical instrumentation methods (NMR, GC, GC-MS, and other).
• Experience in Fluorine chemistry will be considered a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with typical laboratory, reaction, and purification setups
• Demonstrated contributions to the invention and development of novel molecules in the specialty chemicals area.
• Technical curiosity and passion for R&D
• Desire and abilities to identify, develop, and improve new technical concepts and products.
• External orientation and desire to understand technology trends, customer unmet needs, and working with external partners.
• Experience in a fast-paced environment and commitment to project goals and timelines
• Result oriented and collaborative working mindset.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal.
• Reliable and trustworthy with the highest ethical standards and integrity.

Description:

Join Honeywell as an Analytical Chemist who will lead new method development in a research environment. You will develop and guide method development for a variety of instrumentation including IC, ICP-MS, LC, and other laboratory techniques. You will conduct research on identifying impurities and assay on a variety of analytes from small molecules to polymers. You will work with chemists and engineers from research to production phase to ensure product quality. You will be required to work closely with internal and external customers to meet deadlines. Follow all relevant safety and environmental rules and regulations.

You will report directly to our R&D Manager and you'll work onsite out of our Buffalo, NY location.


• Develop methods to identify and characterize new molecules, mixtures, and polymers.
• Write documentation for methods developed and transition methods from a small scale to a production environment.
• Work with customers to meet needs in a fast-paced environment
• Work on a variety of projects across multiple disciplines simultaneously


The annual base salary range for this position is $114,000 - $136,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. • Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
• 3+ years of experience or a PhD in Chemistry
• Work in a research environment
• Experience in trace and bulk analysis


• Preferred experience with IC and ICP-MS
• Method development skills
• Excellent written communication including writing SOPs
• Experience with cGMP, GLP or other regulatory compliance
• Experience working within large groups of engineers and scientists
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to ensure a high level of scientific rigor is applied to all projects
• A passion for scientific curiosity and creativity
• An open, honest, and team-oriented personality
• Eagerness to get involved in hands-on work, with a positive attitude and desire to acquire new skills quickly
