Our data centers are industry-leading examples of energy-efficient, cost-effective designs. You will work alongside partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our Customers.As our Data Center Construction Manager, you will build some of the most interesting electrical and mechanical systems in the world. You will be on the construction site daily, interacting with the construction trades as Amazon's owner's representative. You will be directly responsible for driving cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction vendors and contractors building data centers.Key job responsibilities
The Data Center Construction Manager will be responsible for construction project management and oversight of construction-related activities as they relate to new builds or general capital projects. This includes ownership of the project scope, quality, schedule, and budget. This position will need to be flexible enough to support our builds between Hayward, Santa Clara, and Gilroy.Some of the typical daily tasks of the Construction Manager:-Direct interface with construction general contractors during the bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.-Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.-Create construction project scope and requests for proposals.-Perform financial analysis of construction.-Manage construction projects for specific initiatives aimed at increasing the resiliency of our data centers.-Conduct constructability reviews of electrical and mechanical designs associated with the construction of new data centers or optimization of existing data centers.-Manage construction documents including submittal review, RFIs, change orders, and invoicing.-Ensure construction project quality control.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

-Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management and 7+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent engineering science degree *OR * 11 years of related construction management experience *in lieu* of a degree-8+ years of relevant experience constructing and managing complex MEP systems, including large-scale power distribution/generation gear and cooling systems in mission-critical environments-6+ years of relevant experience managing general contractors and vendors, including RFP processes, bidding, change orders, quality control, and RFI/submittal tracking in construction project execution-8+ years of relevant experience *constructing *electrical engineering systems including large scale power distribution/generation gear and constructing mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Strong understanding of data center system-level architecture, including electrical (e.g., switch gear, UPS, transformers) and mechanical (cooling systems) engineering principles.-Experience in designing and managing construction of complex data centers, critical infrastructure, or large-scale MEP plants.-Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction specifications and drawings for all disciplines, and ability to create and maintain project documentation.-Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations (e.g., Life Safety, BOCA, NFPA, NEC, OSHA) and certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE), LEED, or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).-Demonstrated ability to value engineer, finding innovative solutions to reduce costs and duration without compromising quality and reliability.Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Capital Project Planning: Using agreed upon business requirements from our WPR partners, develop comprehensive project plans that align with the strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversee the performance of multiple projects, ensuring they are on track in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Budget Management: Partner with our Commercial Management Office to oversee the budget development and financial project controls. Partner with our business managers on our budget submission to our Capital Finance Review Board.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a primary point for stakeholder engagement in the Bangalore portfolio, providing updates on portfolio performance and addressing concerns.
  • Team Coordination: Lead, coach, and motivate Cisco project team members and Project Managers leading the projects in your portfolio, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path, assess risks, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting: Track project milestones and deliverables, and prepare status reports for senior management.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and report on project metrics and performance indicators to senior management.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve project management processes and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in project and program management (8-10 years minimum), with a strong focus on construction capital program management and program delivery management for construction projects.
  • Expertise in managing divers
    e teams of vendors and contractors across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in concise reporting and clear communication when providing updates to senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in project management software tools.Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of local regulations and industry standards in California and other US states.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in managing projects in sectors such as infrastructure, construction, or IT.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
