What to Expect
Tesla Vehicle Software Compliance works side by side with cross functional software engineering teams to distill ambiguous regulatory requirements and implement actionable and scalable product and process requirements. We are looking for highly motivated candidates interested in working at the crossroads of software development and compliance, leading regulatory compliance strategy for all of Tesla’s vehicle software. Vehicle Software Compliance is an evolving sector, and crucial to the business. As part of this team, you will be responsible for influencing early-stage regulations by helping regulators understand new technologies and working with the broader vehicle software engineering organization to drive organization wide strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
What You’ll Do
  • Liaison with global regulators, actively map the vehicle software regulatory space
  • Own compliance initiatives end-to-end by working with cross function teams – Software Engineering, Policy, Compliance, Manufacturing, etc.
  • Lead products through successful regulatory certifications
  • Distill ambiguous regulatory requirements into actionable, scalable, product and process requirements for Tesla’s vehicle products
  • Help various cross-functional teams understand how regulatory requirements apply to their vehicle systems
  • Support development teams in developing component and system level product requirements to meet regulatory requirements
  • Support validation teams in developing component and system level testing strategies to meet regulatory requirements
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or the equivalent in experience or evidence of exceptional ability
  • Experience working with product teams to build and deliver end-to-end customer focused products
  • Understanding of hardware and software development processes
  • Demonstrated experience of leading products through regulatory certifications
  • Experience in managing and executing large scale technical programs and high-quality product delivery
  • Strong investigative and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership skills, and ability to work with agility in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior experience in DFMEA, HARAs, TARAs is a plus
  • Prior knowledge or demonstrated experience with automotive standards is a plus – ISO 21434, ISO 26262

  • Drive action with internal and cross functional teams to successfully complete projects within time, budget, and resource constraints
  • Track project progress and report effectively on status, blockers, and changes to plan of record with effective communication channels to all stakeholders
  • Identify creative and timely solutions to key program challenges
  • Track resourcing of projects and drive resource balancing between different program priorities
  • Advise and develop systems and best practices for communication and change management
  • Complete appropriate documentation and ensure accuracy of data across Tesla systems (Confluence, JIRA, Microsoft SharePoint, Polarion, SolidWorks PDM)
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study, proof of exceptional ability and being hands-on, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibility for managing change
  • Demonstrated experience creating, maintaining, and communicating schedules
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
  • Understanding of design cycle and design problem solving processes
  • Exposure to electrical test instruments (DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Power Analyzers, etc.) is a plus

What to Expect

You will be immersed in the design engineering process and will shepherd projects from concept through to prototype validation and then production ramp. You will use your engineering background to understand the product requirements, technical risks, and the validation strategy to accelerate the development process. You will communicate and present project status, highlight schedule risk, and develop recovery plans in the event of project slip. On a daily basis, you will interface with cross function teams - design, manufacturing, compliance, system test, reliability, supply chain and operations to define and drive development of new product programs, while also managing changes in existing programs.

As a Technical Program Manager, you will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy on your programs while contributing to the development of tools and processes that improve the organization’s productivity.

You will be based out of the Palo Alto, California with the expectation of some travel to our Gigafactory 1 (Reno, NV), Gigafactory 2 (Buffalo, NY) or vendor sites.

What You’ll Do
  • Establish and manage programs feature baseline, scheduling, critical path, and technology risks areas for execution
  • Cross-functionally communicate key development updates, risks, and timeline on projects as well as presenting to Tesla Executive team on a weekly basis
  • Identify tactical (exercise operational excellence) and creative ways to overcome obstacles while meeting deadlines despite setback
  • Develop tools to automate various reporting or planning functions for the Technical Programs Management team
  • Conduct planning and execution/support of NPI builds
What You’ll Bring
  • 3+ years of experience in a fast paced, NPI, cross-functional team orientated environment managing programs for high volume mass production products
  • Demonstrated understanding of new product development cycles and criticality of time-to-market – any time spent on perfecting a design is foregoing the next big thing
  • Ability to grasp complex technical topics and abstract key issues and risks in an actionable form
  • Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills, as well as excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Skills with common workplace software (word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software etc) with the ability to create and maintain metrics
  • Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience
