ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various industrial equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime in our manufacturing facilities located in San Jose and Fremont, CA, United States. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support and maintain Ion Beam Etch and Deposition equipment in a high-volume wafer manufacturing cleanroom environment.
  • Demonstrate strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and computer systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and process capability.
  • Provide technical training to team members and perform equipment audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in equipment installation, set-up, and calibration processes.
  • Assist in developing and updating maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Monitor equipment performance metrics and recommend improvements to reduce downtime and increase productivity.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to resolve equipment-related issues and source necessary parts.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with cleanroom standards.

This position requires flexibility for 12-hour shifts, overtime, and weekend work to support our 24/7 manufacturing operations.

REQUIRED:

  • Technical degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
  • Strong hands-on skills in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, including RF systems, vacuum technology, and computer hardware/software.
  • Proficient in reading schematics, using diagnostic tools, and working with control systems/PLCs.
  • Experienced in SPC, equipment audits, and training maintenance personnel.
  • Effective communicator and team player, with flexibility for shift work and overtime.
  • 3-5 years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance techniques and practices.
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems, PLCs, and automation equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) certification preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Sourcing

  • Develop, manage and execute strategies for the Capital Category
  • Conduct RFQ and lead cross functional teams through the selection process of preferred suppliers with effective scoring criteria to critically evaluate supplier proposals in accordance within company policies
  • Collaborate with technology/Equipment and tools Eng./Legal stakeholders to assess, understand, and prioritize business needs to optimize value with WD’s supply base
  • Conduct spend/contract/proposal analysis for supply of capital equipment and tools to the leadership team
  • Lead negotiations on commercial procurement agreements, including, but not limited to, Master Equipment/Tools and Service Agreements (MESA’s), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Statements of Work (SOW’s), Change Orders (CO’s) balancing business deliverables, legal interests and pricing
  • Analyze total costs, assist business functions with ROI/TCO analysis, price and rate benchmarking and negotiate favorable business terms to leverage Western Digital purchasing power
  • Research market intelligence to understand cost drivers and market trends

Category Management

  • Develop, refine and implement category strategies and tactics that enable the procurement of semiconductor equipment/tools at the highest value benefit to the company
  • Cultivate, enhance, and deepen cross functional stakeholder relationships at all levels serving as the subject matter expert on behalf of the procurement organization
  • Actively monitor internal/external trends, synthesize and distill the business intelligence into actionable opportunities and pipeline projects that can and will be delivered Western Digital’s bottom line on an ongoing basis

Supplier Management

  • Manage supplier relationships with a focus on supply/contract and cost management
  • Lead supplier performance business reviews on a quarterly basis to enhance performance delivery from strategic partners
  • Mediate supplier issues and resolve supplier contract disputes as needed
  • Develop supplier rationalization entitlements for each category

Contract Management

  • Evaluate processes and recommend improvements to standardize lifecycle contract and sourcing processes and systems
  • Ensure pricing & deliverables as negotiated are included in the contract, coordinate comparison of proposals and final contract terms
  • Act as liaison between Legal and the business
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10yrs+ of experience in indirect capital equipment strategic sourcing with a semiconductor organization
  • Engineering degree and MBA or JD preferred
  • Supply chain certifications e.g. CSCP etc.
  • Contract Negotiation / Vendor & Stakeholder Mgmt. / Influencing skills required
  • Experience and expertise with sourcing & contracting ERP tools (SAP and/or Oracle), AI tools and Data analytics tools like PowerBI and Tableau is preferred

  • Ability to work well in a high-pace dynamic environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and ensure task completion and deadlines are met as required

As Equipment Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining specific tools on a wafer manufacturing production line in a class 100 cleanroom environment. The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and collaborate effectively; they will demonstrate a willingness to learn, flexibility, creative problem solving, exemplary communication skills and an ability to think on their feet. Candidates must be flexible to work a 12 hour AWS Shift and overtime, which includes holidays, as required by the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance per schedule and MMM (Manufacturing Maintenance Manual) procedures for assigned tool set.
  • Document routine preventive maintenance on PM checklists, record data if applicable and maintain completed checklist/history in tool logbook.
  • Troubleshoot and repair routine unscheduled failures to root cause and select correct down code when closing out call for Equipment Engineer to improve MTBF (Mean-Time Between Failure).
  • Document routine preventive maintenance and unscheduled failures on Resource Viewer and Forum Notes equipment manufacturing tracking system and database
  • Provide inputs to Shift Manager, Lead and/or Equipment Engineer to improve PM cycle-time, MTTR (Mean-Time to Repair), tool availability, quality/workmanship, reduce wafer scrap and cost of ownership.
  • Provide Technical training and certification for maintenance personnel as needed/assigned.
  • Support Tool Owner and Equipment Engineer to define and write preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Effective team player with proven relationship building & communication skills, including cross-functionally with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Engineering, Peers, Management, Customers, and Suppliers.
Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Technical degree in Electronics, Military experience, Automotive Technology, or Semiconductor Industries experience (5 Years of experience),
  • Must have excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Follow all work Safety guidelines.
  • Intermediate level of electronics and high voltage schematic comprehension, assembly drawings, and troubleshooting.
  • Brooks and GenMark robot manual operation and teaching ability.
  • Comprehension of DC and RF- PVD process fundamentals.
  • Min 5 Years’ Experience in Vacuum, Photo/Metrology, or Wet/Plating Technologies, Automotive Technology, Military experience or in the Semiconductor industry.

  • Familiar with HMI PC software structure.
  • Understanding of failure mechanisms, ability to isolate determine root cause and high quality repairs.

  • Support Tool Owner and Equipment Engineer to define and write preventive maintenance procedures.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and efficient time management with the ability to prioritize workload to operate in a face-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of integrating benefits technology solutions with IT, HRIS payroll, vendors, and insurance carriers. Workday experience highly desired.
  • Experience in design and implementation of benefits programs across multiple geographies with M&A experience.
  • Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Minimum ten (10) plus years of experience in benefits plan design with a focus on building and managing business aligned benefit programs; preferably gained while working for a global, complex matrixed organization or equivalent.

  • Process Technicians function as the primary interface between the manufacturing, maintenance, and process and equipment engineering teams to ensure the consistent production of high-quality wafers.
  • Process Technicians are responsible for monitoring the performance of tooling used in the manufacturing process and for helping to identify processing issues affecting output or product quality.
  • Process Technicians are also responsible for the cycle time within their area and must resolve any WIP that is delayed or on hold.
  • In addition, Process Technicians are often directly involved in the resolution of tooling or processing issues and may recommend, document and implement changes at the direction of the appropriate engineering group.

Process Technicians also play a vital role in the training and certification of lower-level operators.

PREFFERED

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Taking care of customer requests and answer product-related questions
  • Updating trackers for qualification and sustaining issues
  • Collaborate with customer on developing qualification plans for new products
  • Manage and track qualification metrics and deliverables
  • Lead periodical customer meeting to track customer qualification progress, issue and initiatives
  • Hands-on 1st level failure analysis to debug customer issue
  • Work hand-in-hand with Engineering and other cross-functional organizations to resolve issues and provide closure response to customer
  • Assist with communicating customer requests for compliance with internal teams and coordinate customer deliverables such as feature request, required documents, etc.
  • Represent and advocate customer needs and priorities to internal teams
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related engineering field with a graduation date before July 2026. The expected start date for this position is in July or August 2026.
  • Interest in working in a customer-facing engineering setting
  • Academic or professional experience in hardware/firmware failure analysis
  • Past experience working with Hard Disk Drives a plus
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, C/C++
  • Data science/ analytics skillset (preferably in Python, SAS, JMP)
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various industrial equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime in our manufacturing facilities located in San Jose and Fremont, CA, United States. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support and maintain Ion Beam Etch and Deposition equipment in a high-volume wafer manufacturing cleanroom environment.
  • Demonstrate strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and computer systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and process capability.
  • Provide technical training to team members and perform equipment audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance procedures.
  • Participate in equipment installation, set-up, and calibration processes.
  • Assist in developing and updating maintenance procedures and documentation.
