  • Electrical Controls Engineers in Tesla's Advanced Automation group design, develop and commission machine control systems for Tesla 4680 Cell Manufacturing from concept to implementation, working with in-house Tesla engineering teams and outside vendors. This position owns electrical controls designs inside our groundbreaking Tesla 4680 Cell Manufacturing sites globally, in California, Texas, Berlin, and all future Tesla Cell factories. Tesla Cell Manufacturing is a high-speed manufacturing process containing discrete and continuous operations, extremely high-quality standards and a high degree of automation.

  • Tesla is looking for amazing Interns who are passionate about harnessing electronics, firmware, and test technology areas to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. Internship roles in our teams provides significant independence and ownership of design and test projects, while still providing excellent mentorship and guidance. What You’ll Bring
  • Basic understanding designing electrical control panels, controls system wiring and instrumentation
  • Experience selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, and key electrical control components
  • Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, UL508A).
  • Familiarity with Beckhoff and Siemens overall control system/components, with some track record of previous projects implementation on these platforms
  • Familiar with EtherCat, FSoE, ProfiNet and ProfiSafe architecture

In 2016 Elon released: The Master Plan, Part Deux. In this plan he highlighted the need to integrate energy generation and storage by through solar deployment with seamlessly integrated battery storage. Tesla delivers energy products to customers and businesses globally via a complex set of related processes, including sales engineering and demand generation, solar system design, coordination with local building department and utilities, on-site physical construction and inspections, and global manufacturing and supply chain. Successful operations requires process optimization, both within these areas and across them. Successful execution will result in happy customers, high quality products, reduced costs, and short cycle times. As a Process & Quality Engineer within residential energy you will drive process improvements that result in high quality product and services. Developing, deploying and validating changes to maximize throughput and first pass yield metrics. You will work closely with the internal direct business to roll out new products and processes with an eye towards sharing and scaling through our channel business.
What You’ll Do
  • Track performance metrics, prioritize top issues and drive continuous improvement activities with cross-functional team for residential solar installations
  • Create process maps and models, and use them to inform rigorous process simulations
  • Conduct time studies and productivity flow charts, quantifying ideal and actual performance metrics specifically for solar installation efficiency
  • Analyze data available anywhere within the Tesla ecosystem to expose, highlight, and evaluate process trends
  • Manage projects and process for new product introductions and sustaining products. Develop standard process, work instructions, quality standards and troubleshooting steps for install teams
  • Maintain tool/part catalogs, test new tools and parts and evaluate tool and part changes
  • Focus on improving cycle times, key performance indicators especially efficiency, yield and profit, and simplifying process structures
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical), other technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 Years Experience as a Process Engineer, Project Manager, Operations Manager or similar in a operations environment

  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically (5-10%)
  • Knowledge of energy system install and design requirements and familiarity with electrical code AND/OR knowledge of construction/roofing techniques.
  • Field experience in solar installation or similar fields in residential construction such as roofing or energy storage
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships throughout the Tesla organization
  • Demonstrated and extensive analytical skills (familiar with basic SQL is a plus)
