What to Expect
Automation Control Engineers are responsible for implementing equipment controls solutions for all cell manufacturing projects. This includes design, architecture and implementation of automated equipment such as automated storage systems, robotics, automated case and pallet conveyance, automated guided vehicles, fixtures, etc.  Controls Engineers own equipment controls standard, hardware programming, robot programming, commissioning and review process of the project as well as additional functions such as auditing, installation and safety assessment.
What You’ll Do
  • Program and debug structure text and ladder logic code on multiple PLC controller platforms (B&R Automation Studio, Beckhoff TwinCAT and Siemens TIA Portal

  • Develop code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable

  • Create robust programs and sequences to control complex, multi-station machinery to perform processes such as material pick and place, dispense, fastening, welding, testing and material transport

  • Use Python scripting and SQL to interface equipment with Tesla Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and to collect data into production databases

  • Create intuitive operator touchscreen interfaces using MappView/TwinCAT HMI and SCADA dashboards screens using Ignition

  • Set up and tune servo drives and VFDs for fast and smooth operation (Schneider, B&R, Beckhoff, Siemens, SEW)

  • Design and implement control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment as per codes and standards

  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing

  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits

  • Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of automated manufacturing equipment

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science or 5+ years’ experience in Control Systems Design and Implementation

  • PLC (Siemens, Beckhoff or B&R preferred)

  • Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI – Beckhoff View, WinCC, Ignition)

  • Proficiency creating detailed electrical and fluid schematics in CAD (EPLAN preferred)

  • Perform preemptive data analysis and voice of the customer (VOC) discussions to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment post deployment, and advocate for solutions that align with both equipment and production goals
  • Understand engineering first principles of test equipment and have a system level grasp of operations to serve as a key contact for the design team and site operations
  • Build and validate test equipment, then deploy to production lines at our contract manufacturers in Mexico, while verifying tester documentation to ensure a seamless handoff to production
  • Provide ongoing troubleshooting support for these testers after deployment
  • Support equipment troubleshooting and qualification during development and ramp-up of manufacturing equipment
  • Domestic travel up to 30%
What You’ll Bring
  • Exposure to a wide variety of test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety, and I/O devices (i.e., pogo-pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current and power meters, PLCs, etc.)
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems

We are looking for a Sr. Industrial Engineer / Data Engineer (5+ yrs. of experience) that will be focusing on providing automations and data solutions to Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering teams. This position involves designing and creating Data Models, developing Analytics and Reporting solutions. They will be focusing on developing superior and strong internal resources to completely own the data inputs to our future simulation and analytical models.

In this role, you will focus on enhancing the methodology for predicting future state machine behavior by leveraging data from existing Tesla manufacturing lines, while developing robust techniques to accurately attribute this data to future line models. You will conduct in-depth analyses of yield data at various levels of granularity—such as station and process levels—and devise methods to precisely apply these insights to future line models. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining software tools to improve visibility and usability for the broader Tesla team, ensuring seamless integration and utility across projects.

What You’ll Do
  • Analyze and maintain yield, availability, and cycle time data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization
  • Develop Model inputs and build Software as necessary to make this available to larger Tesla Team
  • Collaborate with various Tesla teams to Build automated data pipelines to collect, process, and analyze real-time yield, availability, and cycle time data from various sources (IoT sensors, MES, PLCs, SCADA systems)
  • Use statistical process control (SPC), regression analysis, and time-series forecasting to enhance manufacturing efficiency
  • Create interactive dashboards and visualizations in Power BI, Tableau, or Python-based tools for easy monitoring of performance trends
  • Own and manage projects from design to production, maintain relationship with stakeholders and collaborate with both business and technical teams to satisfy business needs
  • Identify slow-running processes and bottlenecks, troubleshoot problems, research and resolve issues
  • Reverse engineer existing projects or products in use and always look for improvements in processes preferably with open-source technologies
What You’ll Bring
  • Degree in Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis and modeling within manufacturing environments
