As a Fire Alarm Systems Design Engineer, you will:

  • Design fire alarm systems for buildings, including floorplan drawings with system device locations, riser diagrams, device wiring details, panel mounting and wiring details, bills of materials, and sequences of operations to meet the intent of the project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Perform peer to peer review of engineering documents.
  • Makes recommendations related to productivity improvement and cost reduction to increase customer satisfaction.
  • Assist in choosing the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution.
  • Provide general electrical calculations, including battery calculations, voltage drop calculations, conduit fills, power supply sizing, etc.
  • Mentor, train, and direct the design activities of fire alarm systems design engineering team.

You will make an impact with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical circuit diagrams
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fire alarm system components
  • Experience engineering fire alarm systems:
    • Mid-Level: 3+ years
    • Senior Level: 5+ years
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification:
    • Mid-Level: NICET Level II or III
    • Senior Level: NICET Level III or IV
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UFC Codes - Federal/Government
  • 2+ years of proficiency in AutoCAD and design; proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7+ years of experience engineering fire alarm systems
  • 4+ years of proficiency in AutoCAD and design
  • Xtralis, EASE EVAC, EIT, ASHRAE, or CISSP certifications

Automation Design Engineers also make recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions to increase customer satisfaction and job profitability.


As a Building Automation Design Engineer you will:

  • Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for higher education and K–12 education facilities, data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high-rise buildings, and lab facilities.
  • Prepare design documents, including mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts.
  • Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third-party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, or BACnet.
  • Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
  • Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, etc.
  • Prepare engineering re-estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope.
  • Perform quality assurance; peer-review engineering documents.

You will make an impact with these qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED
  • Experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design:
    • Mid-Level: 3+ years
    • Senior Level: 5+ years
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Demonstrated ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations
  • Demonstrated proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD or Microsoft Visio
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’sDegree
  • 7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience
