You will be working cross-functionally with engineers, architects, and product managers to build the breakthrough features that our internal customers will love, adopt and use while ensuring stable and scalable applications. You will also be working with data scientists to innovate and deliver distributed backend technologies, sometimes including big data technologies. You'll be a part of a modern, lean, self-governing product engineering team where you have the ability to switch hats between coding to requirements gathering, to testing for quality and performance.

We are looking for a Lead Engineer who can drive our strategy for optimizing cost efficiency and improving utilization across all of the Salesforce services. You will not only provide visibility into opportunities to improve availability, but also work with multiple service owners to help and guide delivering on those optimizations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Drive capacity visibility and automation improvements across multiple services at Salesforce

  • Lead software development being delivered by multiple engineers

  • Lead and participate in requirement gathering, design, and development of complex systems

  • Independently design and deliver analytics tools and frameworks for diverse users, including other engineers, data scientists, and domain experts

  • Mentor team members in all aspects of the software development lifecycle

  • Master our code base, then improve it

  • Build resilient, automated systems and assessing and integrating best-in-class technologies when appropriate

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 8+ years of experience, or equivalent industry experience

  • Deep knowledge of two or more functional or scripting programming languages: Python, Scala, or equivalent

  • Experience operating time-series forecasting, anomaly detection and AI integrated products in production environments

  • Extensive experience working with Data Scientists and operating ML models in production services

  • Understanding of Data Science, Machine Learning and AI concepts

  • Extensive experience with distributed services (REST, rpc or similar APIs) and relational databases (Postgres or similar)

  • Experience with orchestration and workflow management tools, i.e. Airflow

  • Experience with distributed compute platforms like Trino or Spark

  • Experience with Agile development methodology, Test-Driven Development, incremental delivery, and CI/CD

  • Experience owning and operating services throughout the software development lifecycle including design, development, release and maintenance.

  • Experience communicating technical vision, mentoring junior engineers and managing projects.

Specialization in one of the following areas:

  • Interest infrontend/visualizationdevelopment (Tableau, JavaScript)

  • Experienced in infrastructure automation and cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP

Responsibilities:

  • Design the User interface for the mobile application for phones and tablets

  • Co-Design the server side APIs and data models with the help of backend Java feature teams

  • Document the APIs, design, and feature documentation for the use by customers, testers, and designers

  • Implement the design in iOS/Android platform in a fast paced iterative model of development

  • Test the feature end to end with the backend systems to make sure the feature is fully functional with minimum regression on the existing feature set.

  • Fix defects in the existing mobile features

  • Maintain the functionality and backward compatibility of mobile platform features with the new and older versions of platform OSes.

  • Manage Mobile App distribution for iOS

  • Automate the testing and write unit tests for the functionality being worked on

  • Work with customers on educating them on the platform features, designing the customer friendly user experience, and collaborate with designers.

The Role

As a Software Engineer on the Einstein RAG team, you'll play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining large-scale distributed systems that integrate deep learning models, retrieval pipelines, and enterprise data. You'll work across the AI stack—from building microservices and data pipelines to enabling real-time inference and document retrieval using modern ML techniques. You’ll partner with ML engineers, product managers, and researchers to operationalize LLMs and RAG services for production use at scale.

What You’ll Do:
  • Design and build robust, scalable RAG systems that serve thousands of tenants and integrate with multiple Salesforce applications.
  • Develop high-performance distributed systems for knowledge retrieval, document ranking, and grounding LLMs in structured and unstructured enterprise data.
  • Build scalable APIs, microservices, and orchestration layers to support multi-stage RAG pipelines.
  • Drive automation for deployment, monitoring, performance tuning, and root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with ML and AI platform teams to productionize retrieval services and integrate vector databases, embeddings, and search infrastructure.
  • Ensure reliability, security, and performance of AI-backed systems in real-time, multi-tenant environments.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and be a key player in debugging live issues and ensuring high availability.
Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of experience building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems, data-intensive applications, or cloud-native services.
  • Proficiency in system design, microservices architecture, and cloud-native tools (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or Java, with a deep understanding of system-level performance.
  • Experience building scalable data pipelines using Kafka, Spark, Flink, or similar frameworks.

Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and technical writers to gather and prioritize features and requirements. Contribute to code reviews, designs, and team processes. Play a key role in evolving our codebase by writing clean, efficient and maintainable code which must be well-tested. Troubleshoot issues in technically challenging code (Java) using centralized logs, post mortem debugging, diagnostic tools and other techniques.

Telecommuting is an option. Some travel to Salesforce offices may be required.
