• Understand and improve current functionality of the MongoDB query engine

• Work with other engineers to coordinate seamless changes in a feature-rich, large code base
• Work with other teams including client drivers, cloud services, enterprise tools, support, consulting, education, and marketing to coordinate changes or contribute to their projects

• In three months you’ll have contributed to the development of a project slated for the next major version, as well as fixed a few bugs in a minor version of our latest stable release series
• In six months, you’ll have taken on code review responsibilities and are involved in reviewing the design for new features
• In twelve months, you’re making significant contributions to the development of a new major features

This role will be based remotely in London.

In this role, you will:

• Embed deeply with strategic customers, gaining a thorough understanding of their business strategy, challenges and technical requirements within the context of AI
• Architect, design, and implement end-to-end AI solutions using an iterative, experiment-driven approach
• Scope projects, define deliverables, and create actionable plans for both rapid prototypes and enterprise-scale deployments
• Hands-on develop scalable, secure, and performant AI solutions, working side-by-side with customer engineering teams
• Prototype and iterate solutions leveraging MongoDB Atlas, cloud technologies, LLMs, and generative AI technologies
• Provide technical leadership to ensure architectural alignment, quality, and successful customer outcomes
• Actively engage with emerging AI technologies to stay ahead of trends, incorporating new insights into customer solutions
• Collaborate closely with our Sales teams, Solution Architects, Product, and wider Professional Services to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions that drive measurable business outcomes
• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing, creating resources, best practices, and reusable assets that scale the broader AI capability across MongoDB

• Have 5+ years of experience in software development, customer engineering, solution architecture, or similar roles, including at least 2 years dedicated to designing and implementing AI solutions
• Demonstrate a strong customer-centric approach and excellent communication skills, capable of clearly articulating complex technical solutions to diverse audiences
• Proficiency in building modern, full-stack applications with back end development in Python, Node.js, or Java, and front end development with frameworks like React, Angular or Next.js
• Understand and have implemented AI solutions like Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, and LLMs for real-world, real-time applications
• Have hands-on experience deploying scalable AI applications on cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Demonstrate deep understanding of modern development practices, including CI/CD, test-driven development, and microservices

• Experience in R&D within the data science, AI/ML space especially around differing AI domains (agentic, discriminative, perceptual, conversational, reinforcement etc), data processing, optimisation, prompt engineering, model validation, model fine tuning and reranking
• Have knowledge of AI ethics, governance, and compliance frameworks
• Are proficient in additional languages such as French,Spanish, Italian, German, or Mandarin

You will be joining a globally distributed team with a significant presence in both Europe and North America. While this role is based in the EMEA region, you will regularly collaborate closely with colleagues across different time zones. We support both office-based work in our European hubs like Dublin and Barcelona, as well as remote work in several countries (including the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Spain, and France).

This role will be based remotely in the UK.

• 10+ years of experience in data management systems
• Experience with building production-level code with a large user base, robust design structure and rigorous code quality
• Degree in Computer Science or similar field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
• Experience with large code bases written in C++ or another systems programming language. You'll need to trace down defects, estimate work complexity, and design evolution and integration strategies as we rewrite different components of the system
• Passion for the theory and practice of database query engines, as well as hands-on or academic experience in the database domain

• Play a key role in defining the 12-month roadmap for Query Execution by researching state-of-the-art systems and leveraging your deep knowledge of industry trends to provide technical vision and direction
• Take direct responsibility for delivering on long-term (6-18 month) goals to innovate in high-performance query execution and other areas of responsibility, co-ordinating initiative-level strategy and personally writing well-tested, production-ready C++ code
• Advise management on key decisions related to our architecture and processes, and collaborate with stakeholders across the company on large initiatives
• Influence and grow team members through active mentoring, coaching, and leading by example, helping to cultivate a strong talent bench through interviewing and knowledge sharing

This role will be based remotely in Great Britain

• Minimum 4 years of experience in QA automation or software development with a focus on test automation
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining test automation for large codebases
• Strong background in databases, data management systems, and understanding of database query engines; direct experience is highly valued
• Solid foundation in computer science, with knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience. Advanced degrees of experience in database query engines is a plus
• Passion for quality and an understanding of the latest test automation technologies and frameworks

• Design, develop, and maintain automated tests and testing frameworks for the MongoDB query engine
• Collaborate closely with development teams to understand new features and functionalities, ensuring testability and automating tests to cover both happy-path and edge-case scenarios
• Identify, isolate, and document bugs and issues within the database query system. Work with developers to ensure issues are resolved
• Enhance and extend the automation framework to improve test coverage, execution time, and tooling for diagnostics and performance testing
• Review and approve testing plans drawn up in the design phase of Query team projects. At the end of the project, certify that it has met its commitments regarding test coverage
• Provide feedback in code reviews, focusing on the robustness and reliability of code changes from a testing perspective

• Within three months, you have gained an understanding of MongoDB's MQL syntax and its semantics, as well as the behavior of our unique query engine and its interaction with other server systems (storage/indexes, sharding, etc). You have begun identifying key areas for testing improvements
• By six months, you have established yourself as a key reviewer for automated tests, independently leading the testing efforts for complex functionalities, and demonstrating improvements in test efficiency and coverage.
