Responsibilities:
This role requires a deep understanding of material science, optics material, surface and phase transfer science, and their applications in photochemistry, photocontamination, and materials selection under high-power ultraviolet light exposure. The candidate must excel in experimental and data analysis, demonstrating the ability to derive clear results from complex data sets.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct material characterization for novel and various optics materials, leveraging a solid background in material science.
Perform surface analysis and data extraction to generate clear results and conclusions.
Develop actionable plans based on analyzed data and discussions with subject matter experts.
Collaborate with engineering groups, including material research scientists, optics engineers, opto-mechanical engineers, and laser systems engineers, to perform failure analysis and ensure the feasibility of new materials/processes for KLA products.
Build strong teams within the CTO office in Milpitas and other project-related groups.
Understand UV-driven photocontamination and implement control measures through materials selection, cleaning processes, and purge control. Establish reliability models for optics under specific UV radiation conditions.
Guide opto-mechanical engineers to meet reliability and performance specifications for next-generation opto-mechanical subsystems.
Advise design teams on proper contamination control packaging and materials selection.
Requirements:
Strong expertise in material characterization (experience in material synthesis is a plus).
Familiarity with various optics materials, including non-linear optics.
Extensive knowledge in material science, surface science, and phase transfer science.
Proficiency with analytical instruments such as TGA, XRD, SEM, XPS, and other surface analytical techniques (GCMS is a plus).
Hands-on experience with mechanical work and experimental design.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Strong teamwork abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities:
This position requires strong knowledge on solid-state laser design, non-linear optics and analytical skills. The candidate must be proficient in system level laser performance study, both in theoretical simulation and experimentalcharacterization.
Use your laser design and analytical skills, modularize laser concept demonstrated using experimental setups on the optical table. Implement features and controls to improve the optical performance and laser stability.
Perform throughout characterization and reliability test for critical laser crystals and components, such as CLBO, BBO, PPSLT and coated optics. Work closely with related strategic suppliers to ensure the product delivered to KLA can meet the expected performance.
Fit the laser performance to the final system requirement, study the major technical risks and come out with feasible risk retirement plan.
Based on the defined laser specification, allocate correct error budgets for important opto-mech sub-assemblies. Perform simulations, modelling and analysing the laser stability and reliability with designed tolerances in place. Verify experimentally on system impact of key parameter deviations.
Work closely with related design engineers during the prototype laser development phase. Involve in their opto-mech module spec definition and design reviews processes.
Strong team building with CTO team in Milpitas and download the knowledge/experience gained during experimental feasibility study. Work closely with them for laser system design and optimization.
Requirements:
Must be experienced with DUV laser design, skilled at designing or managing a complex laser and optical systems.
Must be experienced with utilization and characterization of harmonic generation crystals.
Must be excellent experimentalist with good problem-solving and data analysis skills.
Prior experience with photo-contamination control best practices is highly desired.
Must be a team player with good written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctorate (Academic) in Physics or Optics with at least 5 years of research experience

Responsible for the complete design and development process, including:
Driving mechanical design requirements specification.
