Your impact

Jacobs is searching for a dynamicto join our team in. In this role, you'll perform advanced analytical procedures used in the testing of samples pertaining to water and/or wastewater, treatment plant effluent and various surface waters. Work will include sample preparation, and analysis of compliance and process control samples at the West Basin Water Quality Laboratory. You’ll operate, maintain, and calibrate instruments and equipment for laboratory analysis and must apply knowledge of the principles and practices of chemistry, biology, microbiology, and mathematics required in an analytical laboratory; use standard laboratory practices and QA/QC procedures and help maintain laboratory accreditation. In addition, you’ll provide technical assistance to other areas of the lab as well as the process control function of the treatment facility.


Principal Areas of Responsibility

• The Chemist will perform chemical, bacteriological and physical laboratory tests for the water recycling facility to include preparation of analytical standard solutions and reagents utilized for analyses

• Continually reviews and scrutinizes standardized procedures and methods used in analyses

• Operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation as needed

• Participates in shared responsibilities to maintain laboratory programs including quality assurance, safety, and training

• Related duties include periodic training of operations personnel on field equipment, analytical techniques and quality control procedures

• Assists in collecting samples during heavy workload months

• Other duties may be assigned

Onsite employees are expected to attend a Jacobs Workplace on a full-time basis, as required by the nature of their role.

Your impact

As a Building Mechanical Engineer at Jacobs, you’ll be at the cutting edge of our efforts to bring innovation and excellence to some of the most exciting infrastructure projects in the region. You’ll use your exceptional design and analytical skills to lead the planning and design of mechanical (plumbing, HVAC, odor control, and fire protection) systems primarily for municipal facilities for water and wastewater projects, but you’ll also contribute to federal, industrial, and institutional projects.

You’ll prepare design drawings and specifications for submission to clients, as well as provide jurisdictional plan checks and permitting support. Engineered systems you’ll be working with include plumbing systems, HVAC package systems, central plants, air distribution, hydronic systems, odor control systems, and associated controls.

You’ll also have the opportunity to:

• Design complete plumbing systems, including utility and potable water distribution systems, drainage systems, and miscellaneous systems such as compressed air and natural gas.

• Design complete HVAC systems, including package type and central plants.

• Design odor control systems, including vapor and liquid phase treatment technologies.

• Design fire protection systems using a performance system approach.

• Prepare calculations for plumbing systems, including water and drainage flows, water heater sizing, and pump sizing and selection.

• Perform calculations for design, such as air loads, pipe/duct/equipment sizing, ventilation requirements, static pressure, odor removal, life-cycle costs, and energy analyses.

• Select equipment, coordinate with equipment vendors, and edit specifications.

• Conduct field evaluations and develop as-built drawings.

• Develop master plans and perform field investigations.

• Conduct technology alternatives analyses using multi-criteria analysis tools for selecting odor control systems.

• Manage and coordinate work with architects, technicians, and engineers of other disciplines.

• Attend meetings and communicate with clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders to establish project needs and discuss design issues.

• Manage quality and schedule of work and interface with clients.

• Support field staff during construction phase of projects, including responding to submittal reviews and requests for information.

• Provide design guidance and mentorship to designers/drafters and less experienced engineers.

Senior Construction Project Managerwho thrives when people are in sync and projects are running not just on time but within budget. You'll reporting directly to the Program Manager and working alongside other project managers, you’ll be responsible not only for the overall project delivery, but also for the management of the project development from conception through completion in accordance with program objectives.  You’ll manage and provide construction oversight to Operating Accounts Receivables (OAR) and resolve complex construction project related issues and disagreements. As the onsite Owners Representative, you’ll be responsible for ensuring not only the progress and technical performance of a project:

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in developing the project budget and construction schedule before and during project construction.
  • Reviews construction status with the Project Superintendent.
  • Meet with architect and engineering team to review plans, clarify construction details, and recommend solutions to obtain a quality project.
  • Assembling a list of subcontractors, pre-qualifying the subcontractors for experience and financial stability and to schedule maintenance.
  • Ensures that status reports are prepared, payment requests processed, and the overall construction timeline maintained.
  • Ensures as-built plans, Operations and Maintenance Manuals and all contract requirements are complete.
  • Ensures construction progress is on schedule, construction costs are within budgets, subcontractors are performing within the solicitation requirements, and interim life safety measures and hospital regulations and requirements are incorporated into the work.
  • Knowledge is especially valuable during construction as site conditions arise, providing solutions that save time and construction expense.
  • Meet regularly with contractors’ project superintendent and assist in the oversite of project construction and ensuring that schedules are maintained.
  • Review update construction schedule by contractor, provide coordination with the Inspector of Record, and conducts project inspections with HCAI /OSHPD, State and Licensing Personnel.
  • Coordination of the closeout of the project.
