Your impact

As a
mid-level Electrical Engineer based out of Irvine, Los Angeles, or San Diego, CA, you will prepare detailed electrical detailed electrical power systems design for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump station rehabilitation, and greenfield projects with minimum supervision. You will work with project managers, design staff including electrical engineers, cost estimators, designers, drafters, and other engineering disciplines to provide quality work on schedule and within budget. We partner across the globe to create the best project outcomes by maximizing the design, digital technology, and support capabilities of our Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teammates. You will engage with these teams to deliver solutions to our clients.

We'll Expect You To:

  • Design electrical systems for water and wastewater conveyance and treatment facilities
  • Preparing contract documents for plans, specifications, and cost estimates for projects
  • Electrical systems include low- and medium-voltage power distribution, lighting, emergency power systems, UPS, and batteries.
  • Apply knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering and design concepts, principles, best practices, codes, and guidelines related to electrical engineering industry
  • Engage several different assignments simultaneously.
  • Develop basis of design report, One-Line Diagrams, Motor Control Diagrams, Panel Schedules, Conduit Routing, Load Calculations, and Voltage Drop Calculations as well coordinate with the Electric Utility Company for new services as needed.
  • Utilize lighting software to perform calculations and provide photometrics.
  • Perform power system studies for electrical systems including load flow, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash and competent in equipment sizing, grounding, and relay coordination.
  • Engage in quality control and quality assurance of electrical engineering plans, specifications, and estimates in the water market
  • Perform field visits and conduct site investigations for public and private clients.
  • Provide services during construction including submittal reviews, response to Contractor’s request for information, review and approval of change orders, and preparation of record drawings.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline teams across multiple office locations.

A Facility Planner is responsible for conducting and documenting physical and functional facility analysis to assist our clients in better understanding their space needs, risks and opportunities within their current or projected facility portfolio. Work involves defining operational patterns and mission requirements and developing strategies to support the changing needs over time. A Facility Planner applies data research and interview techniques to gather and analyze data to predict future requirements.

Projects can range from medium- to larger-size master planning and facility planning efforts. Responsibilities will include planning, preparing, and developing planning recommendations, DD 1391 forms and background documentation, project validation, and corresponding documentation in compliance with all applicable Federal and DoD policies and criteria. Projects could include, but not be limited to Project Development, Project Readiness Index (PRI) PRI#1 and PRI#2, Planning Charrette Report (PCR), Requirements Analysis and Planning Charrette packages. Planning projects may also include Vision Plans, Area Development Plans and Installation Development Plans that require knowledge and application of applicable Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) for planning.

  • Planning knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of the philosophies and techniques of federal, urban, regional, military, and/or facilities planning.
  • Research skills: Demonstrated knowledge and experience in research, data collection, and interviews.
  • Facilitation Skills: Group facilitation skills for use with client workshops and team charrette experience.
  • Critical Thinking: Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions; identifies applications of functional knowledge and existing methodologies to complex problems
  • Scope development: Proven ability to develop scope parameters, prepare fee proposals and define external and internal project schedules, graphic components, mapping/planning graphic elements, and writing assignments based on a defined Scope of Work.
  • Financial Management: Proven ability to manage the financial performance of large complex planning assignments, including tracking and maintaining overall project financial metrics and performance, schedules, subconsultants, revenue projections, client invoicing, overall budgets, and monthly financial updates and reporting effectively and efficiently using Jacobs’s project management systems.
  • Client relations: Proven ability to develop, interface, and manage client relationships.
  • Deliverable management: Manage design and/or mentor the design of overall planning documents page layouts, various charts/figures, brochures, posters, slide shows, and provision of deliverables in a variety of media formats. Graphic design skills are preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Advanced English language skills, both written and verbal, to include technical writing/editing experience and a demonstrated ability to write, edit, and deliver planning content.
