As abased inyou’ll join a collaborative team providing wastewater treatment services for our client and the city of Baton Rouge. Under supervision, you will perform a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified wastewater operator – in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.

Essential Functions:

• Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators, by-pass pumps to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
• Collects process samples as assigned; enter information into chain of custody and utilizes sample tracking tool for all samples collected
• Performs process control sampling and analyses
• Maintains records for daily operations of facilities in daily log and on daily plant check sheets
• Completes tasks detailed on daily check sheets. Observes general operating conditions, and reports issues immediately to supervisor
• Performs other duties as required
• Cleans vehicles, heavy equipment, bar screens, comminutors, weirs, digesters, pumps, tools, and other stationary and portable equipment
• Performs routine inspection of vehicles and equipment; preventive and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and assist maintenance staff with larger corrective maintenance tasks as assigned
• Fluent with writing work orders, entering work order data and completing work orders in maintenance management system. Uses Maintenance Management system to accurately reflect/record daily maintenance activities
• Maintain good housekeeping on plant grounds and inside buildings

Jacobs is seeking ato join our collaborative team inyou’ll perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant, leading weekly meetings, directing, assigning and training team members. You’ll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance, establishing and maintaining effective sample procedures of plant operations and effluent, and providing effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise. You’ll diagnose operating problems, make process control adjustments, direct and perform necessary corrective action. You’ll also prepare reports, collect samples, perform laboratory testing, determine proper chemical flow rates, maintain shift logs and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you’ll take action to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team.

In this role, you'll be responsible for the following:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the Community & Economic Development Department, aligning with the city's overall goals with the growth and development of the city.
• Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations, including Planning, Building Services, Code Enforcement and Land Development. Review and update local development and planning ordinances to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations coupled with the community needs. Coordinate with the City Clerk to schedule and prepare agendas for Planning and Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings. Plans for and holds public meetings or hearings, including public notices, press releases, and notices to surrounding properties. • Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
• Financial Management: Prepare, prioritize, and manage annual operating and capital budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
• Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of planning and development professionals.
• Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to address concerns and promote public works initiatives. Including representing the city/client in town halls, public meetings, and community meetings to present planning changes and receive community feedback.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
• Emergency Response: Develop, manage, and coordinate comprehensive, emergency response efforts, such as natural disasters or severe weather events while collaborating with other city and state agencies, contractors, and local officials to ensure a safe, swift, and effective response.
