Your impact

As a Senior Aquatic Biologist, you will provide technical leadership and guidance on the aquatic biology and water resource permitting components of our challenging natural resource projects, as well as coordinate, mentor, and support our team of biologists. Based out of Alberta, this will be a full-time, mostly office-based role. You’ll have the opportunity to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams guiding aquatic environmental planning and permitting efforts for government and privately-owned infrastructure projects. You will provide technical direction and supervision for the duration of these projects, throughout the design, construction, and operations phases with the opportunity to lead the implementation of the work including the development of methodology and the review of deliverables and regulatory applications. In this position you will establish and maintain relationships with clients, regulators, and sub-contractors, and provide insight into business development. This is a science-based role, and the successful candidate will have a reputation in the industry as a technical expert, and a demonstrated ability to defend the technical rigor of the work completed.

As abased inyou’ll join a collaborative team providing wastewater treatment services for our client and the city of Baton Rouge. Under supervision, you will perform a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified wastewater operator – in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.


Essential Functions:

  • Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators, by-pass pumps to control and adjust flow and treatment processes
  • Collects process samples as assigned; enter information into chain of custody and utilizes sample tracking tool for all samples collected
  • Performs process control sampling and analyses
  • Maintains records for daily operations of facilities in daily log and on daily plant check sheets
  • Completes tasks detailed on daily check sheets. Observes general operating conditions, and reports issues immediately to supervisor
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Cleans vehicles, heavy equipment, bar screens, comminutors, weirs, digesters, pumps, tools, and other stationary and portable equipment
  • Performs routine inspection of vehicles and equipment; preventive and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned and assist maintenance staff with larger corrective maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Fluent with writing work orders, entering work order data and completing work orders in maintenance management system. Uses Maintenance Management system to accurately reflect/record daily maintenance activities
  • Maintain good housekeeping on plant grounds and inside buildings

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Each day will present different activities and opportunities as you help position Jacobs for success in our sales efforts. Our Proposal Managers will be responsible for the following general activities:

  • Independently lead the End Game coordination and preparation of proposals of all sizes, working directly with technical staff; may support large, strategic opportunities, working under the guidance of senior Sales staff
  • Lead and/or support planning and development of small to mid-sized presentations and interviews
  • With no supervision, coordinate, write, edit/tailor, and perform research for non-technical proposal sections; ensure compliance; proactively identify, communicate, and mitigate potential issues/variances
  • Participate in kick-off meetings and other milestone meetings, as appropriate
  • May participate in opportunity planning/Middle Game activities
  • Develop knowledge of water market and suggest teaming partners/subconsultants, as well as qualified Jacobs staff during kickoff/strategy sessions and organization chart development
  • Develop an understanding of and apply business objectives, priorities, and sales strategy, especially as they relate to the End Game proposal process
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on, advocate for, and actively apply Sales Operations procedures, policies, protocols, and best practices, including standard file management and archiving procedures, as well as Branding Guidelines
  • Employ and populate/update (as appropriate) business development-related tools and databases
  • Foster strong, mutually beneficial working relationships with Operations, other Sales Operations staff, Selling Units, and Sales Enablement teams both locally and across the network

Leadership

  • Coordinate/provide direction to graphic designers, document publishers, writers/editors, reprographics specialists, and other support staff, independently coordinate with and collect information from teaming partners and subconsultants
  • Manage self and proposal team, monitoring progress and adherence to proposal schedule
  • Solve issues independently; identify and implement creative solutions to challenges; escalate to leadership as necessary
  • Successfully guide, influence, and convince others with advanced communication and negotiation skills

Sales Strategy

  • Lead a variety of business development assignments, ranging from proposals to qualification statements, as well as large, strategic, complex efforts
  • Support development of opportunity planning/Middle Game deliverables
  • Participate in debrief meetings on completed proposals and apply lessons learned to future efforts
  • Seek opportunities to enhance company image/brand on proposals and presentations
  • Possess understanding of objectives and services provided by the firm

Sales Functions and Processes

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; possess effective active listening skills
  • Understand proposal time commitments and time management
  • Prioritize own and others’ work to meet proposal/team deliverables
  • Write and update project descriptions/summaries, success stories, and lessons learned, as well as resumes and other documents with little or no supervision
  • Possess knowledge of and ability to perform contributing skills (including document publishing, editing, and reprographic standards) supporting application of best practices
  • Offer suggestions to leadership for improvements/additions and lessons learned to streamline processes, procedures, and tools/databases
  • Prepare and ensure compliant and timely proposal deliverables, including managing proposal process and schedule, and meeting client requirements; communicate issues/variances
  • Be accountable for QA/QC check of assigned proposals and proposal sections for self and support staff
