Description:

Responsibilities

  • Lead QA Engineer must be able to do session level, functional, technical, failover and performance testing across the entire stack – application, hardware, firmware, OS and network.
  • Review code base and make recommendations for testing scenarios; analyze changes introduced and assess the technical testing required.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to build scenarios in requirements, design and coding phases.
  • Perform analysis of data from QA and production to build testing tools and scenarios.
  • Maintain testing and analysis tools; identify any negative changes to both QA and production environments and work with teams to resolve those concerns.
  • Take the initiative to improve efficiencies across systems/projects.
  • Support operations, including executing process validations, methodology and audits.
  • The candidate will also be responsible for building automation in one of the languages, Perl or Python to help ensure the delivery of quality trading system applications and drive solutions

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a QA Engineer, working on low latency client/server applications.
  • Must have 4+ years of Linux/Unix experience. Red Hat is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience including software design, development, testing and deployment.
  • Intermediate to advanced programming/scripting knowledge in Python or Perl.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently on multiple projects.
  • Ability to differentiate between a critical business impacting incident and a minor problem, and resolve/escalate accordingly.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience with Trading and financial applications is a plus.
  • Knowledge of FIX or Multicast protocol is a plus.
  • Experience with supporting production changes, UAT testing and debugging prod issues.
  • Results Driven Drive, focus and commitment to deliver results that meet the requirements of internal customers along with the passion for quality and getting the right results in the right way. Ability to work to tight schedules/deadlines and multitask.

Job Purpose

The Data Center Operations Engineer (DCOE) is primarily responsible in ensuring that all activities carried out in the Data Center & Access Center’s conform to Data Center Procedures and industry best practice.

The DCOE will carry out Data Center works as directed, these works could be project based or tasks received via incident management or workflow management tools. In all cases the DCOE will ensure that Change Control rules are followed and support documentation is appropriate and correct.

The role is will also be responsible for carrying out daily checks in their areas of responsibility, ensuring security is maintained, managing third parties and ensuring all work activity is captured and updates entered into the Data Center management tool, or into the workflow management/incident management tool, Service Now.

  • Installation, relocation and recovery of Network, Server and Storage hardware to manufacturer standards and industry best practice.
  • Repair of hardware to major component level (e.g. hard disk, NIC card, memory) across a broad range of vendor equipment.
  • Execution of all work to Data Center work process & procedure.
  • Manage the goods in/out process for your dedicated storage facility and keep full records as directed for all incoming/outgoing assets and a full availability list of all items in storage.
  • Receipt of damaged/failed hardware internally and replacement through Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) process
  • Carry out monthly audits of items in store and produce a report of all anomalies
  • Manage asset record updates, tracking and placing assets as to their location and status (deployed, ceased etc).
  • Ensure that all records are updated following any installations, moves or changes
  • Carry out daily housekeeping checks of the data halls and record their findings
  • Control Data Center stocks (copper/fibre patch leads, patch panels, connectors etc.) and report appropriately.
  • To provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in their working patterns to support and maintain OLA’s & SLA’s

Knowledge and Experience

  • Pro-active and flexible with ability to work either as part of a team or as an individual
  • Effective written and verbal communication at all levels
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Desire to learn and progress within the company
  • Experience of hardware manufacturer installation standards and knowledge of copper and fibre cabling installations and standards, with preference given to the following qualifications;
    • HP Accredited Platform Specialist
    • Systimax Installation & Maintenance ND3361
    • Corning NPI Membership
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Data Center environments
  • Basic network knowledge and good experience of a broad range of IT hardware; HP, Dell, Nokia, Ciena, Cisco, Juniper and Arista.
  • Understanding of IP networks
  • Experience of working in an ITIL controlled environment with knowledge of Change Control, Incident Management & Problem Management processes.
  • Good experience using Microsoft Office and CRM databases
  • Ability to prioritise effectively
  • Ability to manage 3rd party contract staff/companies working within the DC
  • Excellent time management skills
