Job Summary

Reporting to thetherole supports automation engineering services activities such as hardware and software design and development (non-production).


What a typical day looks like:

  • Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components and return to serviceability
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company protocols
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance actions on all subsystems and related components
  • Ensure preventative maintenance of robotic and process support equipment are completed on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Understanding of PLCs
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical diagrams including complex automated system drawings.
  • Analyzes engineering test results and implements changes to resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with the automation team in the qualification process of automated systems.
  • Records procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or method

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Typically requires an Associate's degree, military training, equivalent vocational training, or equivalent experience
  • Typically requires 4 years of related experience
  • Electronics experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with SMT and PCBA is preferred but not required
  • IPC and workmanship experience knowledge preferred
  • Serves as an expert/consultant in technical skills with other employees.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of advanced technologies as well as functional techniques and improves processes

What a typical day looks like:

  • Design, engineer, and modify existing and new moderately-complex automation equipment, tooling and applications to automate manufacturing processes.
  • Establish technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes.
  • Understand the machine operating standards, consequence of wear and tear parts and product defects
  • Ensure the uptime of machines through regular preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance
  • Should be willing to learn & enhance the skill in all type of Automation equipment.
  • Should prepare why-why evaluation & drive for permanent corrective actions.
  • Should be able to give feedback to improve the design of process and equipment.
  • Directs daily department activities to maximize equipment utilization and support production needs
  • Coordinates maintenance activities with other functional groups such as engineering and operations to ensure the efficient operation of the departmental function.
  • Collaborates and offers input to planning, building, and maintaining the Automation framework and associated processes for new products.
  • Identifies and drives change to ensure automation effectiveness of existing processes.
  • Demonstrates and thorough understanding of customer requirements, offer suggestions and ideas on how best to deliver automation solutions.

  • Typically requires 3 years of related experience
  • Demonstrates advanced functional and technical skills and basic process skills. Demonstrates advanced / thorough knowledge of the function and Flex business.
  • Typically requires skill and troubleshooting, and diagnostics, and overview of the entire test process and the ability to train others.
  • Impacts the near-term(quarterly/semi-annual)operational success of the function. Enhances and provides input to functional processes or technologies. Assists in achieving section/sub-function objectives for a functional area.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, work that requires repetitive motion, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle small components, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   • Working from engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform complex engineering testing, checkout, First Article Inspection, root cause research, internal corrective actions and supplier correction actions.
  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to define quality and reliability standards.
  • Selects processes to be audited from primarily the manufacturing areas and checks for a variety of features, including ESD (electro-static discharge) and handling practices, documentation, training and process integrity.
  • Selects products for audits at specified stages in the production or post-production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance and mechanical, electrical or cosmetic characteristics.
  • Records audit data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards, programs or reports to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Disposition defective material (MRB)

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience
  • Advanced technical skills which may be used to conduct on-the-job training and guide other employees.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • ASQ certification as CQT, CQA, CQPA or CSSGB is desired ISO 9000, ESD, OSHAS 18000, ISO 14001.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of advanced technologies as well as functional techniques and improves processes
  • Needs to have experience with tools e.g. micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.
