Responsibilities:

  • Working with each trading desk to ensure that all relevant market risk factors are properly identified and formally captured in official risk systems
  • Working with senior risk managers in Volcker compliance program
  • Developing and maintaining an appropriate autonomous market risk limits framework with applicable limits and triggers
  • Autonomously monitor business compliance with the firm’s market risk-related policies
  • Assist in credit product and muni product risk reporting and limit monitoring
  • Oversee risk exposure measurement and limit monitoring processes to ensure integrity and appropriate independence of reporting
  • Participate in the development of business-level stress testing that properly considers risk concentrations by single issuer, risk rating, sector/industry and geography; review results and assess appropriate follow-up actions
  • Participate in the ongoing development, implementation and upgrade of risk systems including CRMR/VaR, CRMR/Issuer risk, LimitCentral/Volcker, LimitCentral/issuer risk
  • Small tasks/projects which constitute direct integration with trading businesses and market in general, a fantastic learning opportunity for credit market and products

What you’ll do

What we’ll need from you

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced FAIS / Conduct Compliance Officer to oversee and manage compliance with the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS) Act and related conduct requirements. The role involves ensuring that the organisation operates within the regulatory framework set by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), and that fair customer outcomes remain central to all business practices.

Job Purpose:

The FAIS / Conduct Compliance Officer role requires one to exercise sound judgement, strong influencing skills, technical expertise and leadership in fulfilling these responsibilities.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and interpret applicable legislation and regulatory requirements (including FAIS, FICA, TCF, POPIA, COFI, and related frameworks).
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments and report findings to management and the board.
  • Provide advisory support to business units on FAIS-related obligations and customer conduct requirements.
  • Ensure that representatives and key individuals are fit and proper in terms of FAIS requirements.
  • Facilitate FAIS licensing applications, amendments, debarments, and regulatory reporting to the FSCA.
  • Coordinate and oversee the RE exams, CPD tracking, and ongoing competence of representatives and key individuals.
  • Manage the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) framework and assist in embedding a strong conduct culture.
  • Perform compliance monitoring reviews, investigations, and root cause analysis of conduct breaches.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including the FSCA, compliance network groups, and auditors.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory returns and reports in line with prescribed deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Commerce, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Registered Compliance Officer with the FSCA (advantageous).
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a FAIS compliance role within the financial services industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the FAIS Act, FSRA, FICA, TCF, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in liaising with the FSCA and other regulators.
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Proficient in Excel and Word – ability to learn multiple system applications quickly.
  • Commitment to co-operative and collaborative working environment, requiring an innovative approach to meeting sometimes challenging demands.
  • Ability to work individually and in Global and Regional teams on all aspects of AML and Compliance.
