Arm seeks an experienced Director of Performance Engineering to lead technical strategy and execution for our Userspace, Java Enterprise, Android, and Optimization teams. Reporting to senior leadership, you'll drive key initiatives focused on software performance, optimization, and architectural enhancements across Java-based enterprise applications, Android platforms and userspace environments.

• Provide clear technical leadership for a team of 60+ engineers with 4-5 direct technical leads, across multiple geographical locations.
• Define and drive architectural strategies, performance analysis, and optimization of Java Enterprise and Android userspace software.
• Ensure robust, scalable, and optimised software solutions that enhance user experience and system performance.
• Collaborate effectively with product management, quality assurance, and operational teams to ensure software aligns with business and technical objectives.
• Establish clear technical roadmaps and deliver measurable performance improvements.

• Proven experience leading large-scale Java Enterprise, Android and userspace software development and optimization.
• Strong recent coding background, specifically within Java-based enterprise software, Android application development, or userspace optimization.
• Significant leadership experience, effectively managing teams of 50+ software engineers.
• Deep understanding of software optimization, performance tuning, profiling tools, and practices.

• Familiarity with open-source software ecosystems.
• Knowledge of Arm architecture and the associated software environment.

As a Performance Analysis engineer you will be working on multiple aspects of the performance analysis, including:

• Characterize real world use cases and build workloads that will be used to understand system performance.
• Run system performance characterization and optimization studies on different type of platforms(Pre-Silicon and Post-Silicon).
• Devise and investigate new ideas for workload analysis and development of new tools and flows.

• At least 2 years of software development and/or performance analysis experience with a degree in Computer Science, or similar field.
• Familiarity with performance analysis methodologies on RTL emulation/simulation, FPGA, Test-chip/Development kits etc.
• Experience implementing new RTL modules or make changes to existing RTL modules using Verilog/System Verilog.
• Experience with programming languages such as Ruby, Python, C++.
• Familiarity with frameworks such as Buildroot to build Linux software stack and device drivers/kernel modules required for use-case performance analysis.

• Good understanding of computer architecture and microarchitecture concepts such as Cache hierarchy, Memory access efficiency, Multi-core architecture, Bus protocols etc. and key performance concepts and metrics.
• Knowledge of Arm CPU/(Mali)GPU architecture, System IPs, AMBA bus protocols to analyze and root cause performance issues.
• Experience using scripting languages like Javascript, R to develop visualization charts for performance metrics and comparisons.
• Self motivated to experiment and root-cause performance issues.

At Arm an SoC Architect is a technical role responsible for architecting and designing high-volume, sophisticated, SoC platforms on groundbreaking nodes across multiple market segments including mobile, automotive, datacenter and networking, and IoT.

• Design and develop Arm’s SoC architecture based on Arm product IP and system architecture to meet the requirements of best-in-class compute across our market segments.

• Significant experience in architecting scalable SoCs on groundbreaking nodes across multiple market segments
• Expertise in multiple of the following areas: heterogeneous compute architectures, power management, clocking, coherent and non-coherent interconnect, PCIe/CXL, multi-level caching architecture, functional profiling & debug, security and access control, virtualization, memory hierarchies, sophisticated 2.5D/3D packaging, performance / power modeling & estimation, soft real-time accelerators, DRAM memory technologies.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal and communication skills. Able to present at executive level inside and outside of Arm.
• Bachelor's or Master’s degrees in Electrical or Computer Engineering and 10 years of experience in a senior development or leadership position within semiconductor industry

As a Software Architect in the Software Organisation, you will work with our key software ecosystems to define software solutions to enable Arm technology and develop strategies to have those solutions adopted and enabled for users.

You will help evolve our software strategy across all computing segments, including data centre, automotive, mobile, robotics, networking, home, laptops, TVs, embedded and IoT. You will drive adoption of new features and trends in core processing, accelerators, and system hardware, focusing on improved security, reliability, and performance.

- Knowledge of Arm based computer Architecture and the range of SoCs and devices that are created using Arm hardware IP.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Software Engineering to lead our Userspace Performance and Optimisation teams. You will lead the full life cycle of software engineering and delivery to achieve the performance goals of Arm and its partners in userspace. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background in performance analysis and optimisation, exposure to a variety of operating systems, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive large-scale initiatives in a fast-paced environment. A proven track record of navigating complex sets of overlapping requirements from multiple internal stakeholders as well as external customers, in a rapidly growing organisation, is a must.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for all software development activities related to Userspace Performance and Optimisation.
• Lead a variety of userspace software development projects, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and resources are used efficiently.
• Collaborate with the business segment leadership to align delivery roadmaps with business objectives.
• Lead, grow and mentor existing high-performing engineering teams with presence in multiple countries whilst fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

• Work experience on timing closure for different power domain critical blocks
• Experience in collaborating across silicon engineering groups in your organization as well as with EDA vendors
• Work experience of 6-12 years in Synthesis and Timing constraints
• Must have worked on constraints development and timing closure on 5nm or 3nm technologies
• Strong Automation(Pert/Tcl/Python) and conversational abilities

• Bachelors in Electronics Engineering
• Coding skills in Per/Python or TCL or an equivalent language
• Good exposure in power aware synthesis for block and top level
• Familiarity with synthesis, logic equivalence, DFT, CLP and backend related methodology and tools
