Wireless technologies have become a crucial part of all Apple devices that delight our customers. With the latest developments in cellular, we apply a sophisticated simulation platform to study the performance of our devices in complicated radio and network conditions and gain insights for system design. In this role, you will be at the center of a silicon design group responsible for physical layer systems for pioneering wireless SoC products, with a focus in wireless system design, modeling, and simulations.
Contribute to simulator configuration management and perform SW releases. Work on simulation framework related topics, such as regression infrastructure development, test coverage analysis, design of automation scripts as well as tool deployment and library integration. Design and implement 4G/5G PHY models for pre-silicon simulation and verification. Perform verification of the PHY models using 3rd Party test tools and test data provided by external network vendors. Contribute to link-level simulator modeling, meaningful metric testing, and framework design. 4G/5G PHY/MAC layer abstraction/modeling, and interfacing with higher layers via external simulators. Design test cases for feature verification, drive feature bring-up, and issue resolution. Collaborate across teams to define/ document project requirements, including model architecture, interfaces, and feature sets and solve integration issues with HW and FW teams.
  • Minimum requirement of BS and 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Expert knowledge in Python and C/C++ including the latest C++ standard evolution and professional experience in C/C++ SW development.
  • Strong background in building systems, configuration, and release management.
  • Good understanding of simulator frameworks for link- and system-level simulations as well as FW development.
  • Solid knowledge of wireless communication systems with hands-on experience in 4G/5G PHY FW design, pre-silicon verification and critical metric testing.
  • Working experience in workflow automation for verification and regression testing.
  • Experience in code optimization techniques and efficient code development, including memory and runtime profiling and understanding of C/C++ compiler internals.
  • Experience with Matlab including good understanding of baseband signal processing algorithms.
  • Solid knowledge of current cellular communication standards: 5G (NR) and 4G (LTE).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (issue triage, debugging and fixing of defects, …).
  • Experience in chip bring-up including the use of lab equipment is a plus

In this technical role, you will be part of a silicon design group responsible for system integration, bringup and characterization of state-of-the-art wireless SoC products from conception to production.
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Lead PHY hardware validation efforts on emulation and FPGA platforms ; Develop and maintain Python/Matlab based Pre/Post-silicon validation and debug environments ; Design and implement optimal calibration algorithms in Python/Matlab simulation environment, simulate and bench mark performance ; Implement on-chip calibration algorithms with HW/SW constraints for factory tuning and real time operation ; Bringup, validate, and tune Phy/Radio systems on emulation, simulation and real silicon platforms to achieve optimal performance ; Work alongside PHY, MAC, FW, RFIC and digital circuit designers on efficient implementation of DSP algorithms ; Develop and implement test plans, collect and analyze test results, identify and debug issues.
  • BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience.
  • Hands-on experience with chip bringup, tuning transmitter and receiver chain performance.
  • In-depth knowledge in communication theory, OFDM systems, RF system architecture and signal processing algorithms (such as timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, RF impairment estimation and correction, channel estimation, equalization, coexistence, interference mitigation etc.).
  • Experience designing algorithms for calibration, pre-equalization, cancellation, and/or digital pre-distortion techniques.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or C/C++ implementation.
  • Hands-on experience using wireless test lab equipment (spectrum analyzer, signal generator, network analyzer, power meter), along with a solid understanding of the underlying theory for communication system debugging.
  • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols like 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/bc, 802.11ad/ay or LTE.
  • Experience with pre-silicon validation using emulation and FPGA prototyping tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent analytical and debug skills, with an ability to debug hardware issues within emulation environment.
