The physical design engineer role in the tech industry at Apple in Austin, United States is an exciting opportunity to join one of the world’s leading technology companies. As a physical design engineer, you will utilize the latest technologies in the development of leading edge mobile, wearables and other consumer and enterprise products. Your primary responsibility will be to create cutting-edge designs that are optimized to meet the highest standards in product performance, reliability and scalability. You will collaborate with a cross-functional team made up of electrical, mechanical and thermal engineers. Through this collaboration, you will bring designs from concept to production in the most efficient, safe and reliable manner. You will need a strong understanding of product performance requirements such as thermal management, RF interference, power delivery and reliability. You will be able to use a variety of design techniques including 3D CAD models and solid modeling to assess product performance. Knowledge in tight-tolerance mechanical designs is also desired. Because the products you design have to meet strict consumer and government safety requirements, you will need to know the latest testing and certification protocols. Understanding at least one 3D CAD package is a must. Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel are also used to document and organize design results as well as track project progress. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills, a team-oriented approach and a commitment to creating innovative products.
