Description:
As an MDE, you'll lead the creation, evaluation, and implementation of end-to-end manufacturing solutions for key design features on Apple’s products. You will ensure our manufacturing solutions meet our product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals.- Evaluate product and design goals to understand the dimensional, cosmetic, and functional priorities for the product- Identify and validate suitable fabrication equipment and processes to meet all Apple design and operational requirements- Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables and secondary operation requirements to meet defined specifications- Conduct process optimization DOE’s, using data and hands-on approaches together to find solutions to sophisticated challenges- Communicate ongoing process development status to functional teams and lead discussions to align design requirements with manufacturing capability- Provide leadership at global manufacturing sites during development and production ramp, traveling internationally, identifying root causes of open issues and driving corrective actions to timely resolutionIN THIS ROLE YOU’LL: - Collaborate with internal partners and equipment suppliers to develop and refine metal additive manufacturing processes and equipment - Optimize additive manufacturing processes for Apple cosmetic, dimensional quality, reliability, and throughput requirements. Develop methods to model and characterize key performance indicators in additive manufacturing. - Support Product Design in development of metal alloys for additive manufacturing applying knowledge of 3D printing systems and powdered metallurgy- Develop best in class qualification plans and procedures to qualify additive manufacturing equipment and materials applying DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ
  • 2+ years of experience in metal additive manufacturing related technical roles
  • Communicates technical information clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal English forms
  • BS or equivalent experience or higher in mechanical, manufacturing, material science, industrial engineering, or related fields
  • First-hand experience in laser powder bed fusion process development, including use of material characterization tools to aid in process DOE.
  • Knowledge of secondary operations including powder handing and recycling, automation, heat treatment and stress relief processes.
  • Applies a hands-on approach to engineering and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrates commitment and tenacity; a self-starter who learns quickly and adapts to find new solutions in the face of adversity.
  • Employs project management tools to effectively plan and track work to completion; diligent and reliable in completing tasks independently.
  • Experience on the shop floor, in a hobby or professional context.
  • Experience working with highly cosmetic parts or products is preferred.

You’ll collaborate with industry experts and engineers to perform coating property studies, enhance deposition processes, and explore simulation techniques for PVD technology. In this role, you will assist in advancing PVD coating technology through hands-on projects that involve research, simulation, and analysis. You will gain practical experience in coating deposition, stress characterization, and property optimization. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to study various techniques for improving adhesion, stress resistance, and deposition quality for both metal and glass substrates.Key Responsibilities:- Conduct studies on ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) Plasma for reflective index and composition, exploring how ICP can enhance adhesion properties of PVD coatings.- Perform PVD stress characterization on glass and metal surfaces, analyzing the correlation between coating stress, adhesion, and chipping.- Utilize COMSOL simulation tools to model PVD deposition thickness on 3D surfaces, optimizing coating performance across complex geometries.- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and improve coating processes and deposition techniques.- Analyze data and contribute to reports detailing findings and recommendations to enhance the performance and reliability of PVD coatings.- Assist with the development of new coating materials and processes, testing various configurations to support product innovation.
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Available for a full-time internship (6~12 months).
