AWS is looking for world class scientists to join The Learned Systems Group to broadly apply machine learning and foundational models to database system problems. Within the Learned Systems Group you will invent, implement, and deploy state of machine learning techniques to make our data systems easier to use or to improve its efficiency. Potential projects include but are not limited to Amazon Q Generative SQL (Text2SQL and other interactive ways to work with structured data in natural language), AI-driven cluster scaling techniques, cluster pool optimization, or autonomics (e.g., learning-enhanced storage layouts, intelligent scheduling and admission control, MV selection). You will build prototypes and innovate on new representation learning solutions. You will interact closely with our customers and with the academic and research communities. You will be at the heart of a growing and exciting focus area for AWS and work with other acclaimed engineers and scientists.Key job responsibilities
As an Applied Scientist, you will own the design and development of end-to-end AWS database experiences (using mostly C++ and Python). You’ll have the opportunity to write technical white papers, create technical roadmaps and drive production level projects that will support Amazon Science. You will have the opportunity to design new algorithms, models, or other technical solutions whilst experiencing Amazon’s customer focused culture. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Are enrolled in or have completed a PhD in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or equivalent quantitative field
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
- Experience with relational database internals (i.e. query execution, scheduling, performance optimization)

In this role, you will:
- Engage with industry leading partners to execute our installation strategy.
- Develop installation processes, mechanisms, and standard operating procedures supporting terminal installation at scale.
- Design system test and verification processes and document at-scale mechanisms.
- Manage tactical interactions with partners to ensure milestones, deliverables, and technical artifacts are technically compliant with project objectives and programmatic requirements.
- Communicate regularly with senior management on status, risks and change control.
- Relentlessly simplify and innovate to solve challenging site installation and integration problems.

As a Gateway Commissioning Engineer, you will provide both engineering and on-site leadership to teams performing installation of our ground gateway systems. You will travel extensively (50%+) and be responsible for the installation of each site and direct the work of other team members at sites. You will also be the on-site engineer for performance of site configuration and acceptance testing. These systems provide mission critical communications with Kuiper satellites. Ground terminals include state of the art tracking antennas, modems, and innovative supporting systems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, etc)
- Experience working in satellite communications ground systems and operations


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience delivering technical projects
- LEO and/or MEO satellite systems experience
- Experience leading globally located earth station projects

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
- Fluency in statistical concepts and advanced statistical techniques - distributions, confidence intervals, time series analysis, regression models, clustering.
- Experience with statistical analysis tools (such as R), root cause analysis, process design and control.
- Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
