Your key responsibilities

  • Oversee engagement delivery: This will involve engagement planning, directing the technical delivery of actuarial services, monitoring, and overseeing engagement economics and managing the resourcing of engagements.
  • Develop and maintaining individual and team capabilities: This will include keeping on top of evolving life insurance actuarial practice and emerging topics within that practice, expanding the breadth of one’s personal knowledge and capabilities, mentoring more junior members of the team and providing guidance regarding their development and sharing knowledge and insights with other members of the team.
  • Participation in the pursuit of sales opportunities. This will involve developing and maintaining relationships with peers and executives at potential clients, developing and maintaining a profile within the Canadian actuarial profession (eg by participation in industry and professional committees),
  • Developing and maintaining an understanding of EY’s services, developing and maintaining relationships with other EY personnel serving potential clients and collaborating with and participating in pursuit teams. Skills and attributes for success

  • You’ll also need to be a great communicator, as well as flexible in the face of often rapidly changing projects.


To qualify for the role you must have

  • 10+ years of experience working in an actuarial position within the life insurance industry, ideally in a corporate actuarial role
  • Fellowship in the Canadian Institute of Actuaries or equivalent
  • Sound knowledge of Canadian actuarial practice and standards including valuation, financial reporting and capital
  • Exceptional ability to inspire teams, make strategic decisions, and communicate complex actuarial concepts effectively.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems, adapt to changing regulations and market conditions, and develop innovative solutions for risk management.
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in calculations and reporting, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals through data-driven decision-making.


Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience developing, maintaining and using models built in other actuarial software (eg AXIS, PathWise, Prophet, Alfa, Python).
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 valuation and other financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with life insurance products and reserving and reporting.
