Flex Import/Export Analyst

Today

What a typical day looks like:

  • Manage all imports and exports through airlines, haulers and customs.
  • May have P&L control for a department

Import Compliance:

  • Reviews contracts for required clauses and identifies omissions.
  • Interfaces with internal and external customers, foreign order administration, freight forwarders, customs officers and other functional areas to ensure coordination and logistics of shipment.
  • Selects carrier/forwarder for shipment of products and prepares documents for freight forwarders.
  • Maintain accurate Import Compliance within the site for all inbound international shipments.
  • Implement and maintain record-keeping system to comply with U. S. Customs.
  • Make entry adjustments with U.S. Customs when necessary.
  • May perform regular audits as deemed mandatory with several departments to identify, disclose and work to fix any potential Import Compliance concerns in alignment with Trade Compliance Coordinators.
  • May code international freight invoices for inbound shipments, as well as domestic truck load shipments to unipersonal departments within the site.
  • May research short paid invoices and resolve any related issues.
  • May maintain and update inbound/outbound carrier routing guide for site per Corporate Logistics guidelines.
  • May distribute routing guide to Purchasing, Shipping and various other departments.
  • Notify departments within in the site of any non-compliant issues.
  • May file claims with the carrier/insurance companies per the Corporate Logistics procedure for compensation of lost/damaged freight while in the care of the carrier.
  • May maintain claims data and interact with Corporate Logistics and insurance company/carrier to resolve claim issues/questions.
  • Communicate with Purchasing and Manufacturing departments to hold up in part clarification.
  • Interacts with Corporate Trade Compliance to ensure Import/Export Compliance processes are up to date to meet U.S. customs rules and regulations
  • Ensure U.S. customs guidelines are followed by vendors, purchasing, broker, site logistics and other accountable parties
  • Classifying importing items with correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
  • Ensure Food and Drug Administration, Federal Communications Commission, U.S. Goods return forms and Fumigation Certificates are provided and on file for parts requiring this information
  • Notify members of the site’s Compliance team should a discrepancy in the audit be noted and drive escalation as appropriate to resolve issue
  • Correct and file entry documents for entries identified
  • Maintain Certification of Origin (COO) database used to identify non-compliant vendors

Export Compliance

  • May international and domestic rate quotes per request by site management
  • May prepare rate comparisons between carriers
  • Track international shipments and may track domestic shipments
  • Provide proof of delivery for shipments
  • May research freight issues
  • Audit special need deliveries to identify issues and concerns
  • File or assist with filing of freight claims for international and domestic shipments
  • May maintain and update carrier routing guide
  • May train various site departments on usage of carrier routing guide
  • Arrange expedited shipments by request to meet customer needs
  • May coordinate international truck load shipments
  • May audit domestic and international inbound carrier freight invoices
  • May address issues regarding freight invoices with carrier and payment company
  • May identify ways for freight and cost savings
  • The experience we’re looking to add to our team:
  • Typically requires 5+ years of related experience.
  • Must comprehend import/export procedures and regulations, comprehension of screening process; classification; ECCN; license designation; country of origin; valuation; Commercial Invoice; Shipper’s Export Declaration; international incoterms; DOC BXA and ITAR and regulations.
  • Must have a full working knowledge of rate structures and application of same to hold up requests from Program Managers and Global Account Managers as they relate to new business opportunities as well as increased business for existing customer base.
  • Demonstrates operations and technical skills and comprehension of Flex’s functional standards.
  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of functional concepts and an comprehension of Flex policies and procedures. Has awareness of the functional impact upon work processes and other functions.
  • Ability to utilize office software including, word, spreadsheets, presentation packages and data base systems.
  • Ability to read, research and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and acknowledge to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and governmental agencies.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and exchange rates.
  • Ability to apply common sense and comprehension to carry out instructions in various forms. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • APICS Certification and Licensing as Custom Broker desirable.
  • Impacts near-term (quarterly/ semi-annual) operations of the team or functional area. Enhances and provides input to functional processes. Executes functional objectives at the site.
