Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage and mentor a team of site reliability engineers, setting performance objectives, providing technical guidance, and ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Oversee the execution of reliability initiatives, ensuring critical systems maintain high availability, resilience, and performance at scale.
  • Work with engineering, operations, and product teams to ensure seamless integration of reliability best practices into the development, deployment, and operational processes.
  • Lead incident management activities, including coordination of response efforts, root cause analysis, and implementing solutions to prevent future incidents.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to system reliability, availability, and performance, reporting results to leadership regularly.
  • Promote and drive automation within the site reliability engineering team, ensuring processes are streamlined and systems operate with minimal manual intervention.
  • Manage capacity planning efforts, ensuring the scalability of systems and the ability to handle increasing traffic and resource demands effectively.
  • Ensure the development and testing of disaster recovery plans and procedures, minimizing downtime in the event of a failure.
  • Lead career development and mentorship efforts for team members, ensuring engineers have the tools and opportunities to grow their skills and advance their careers.
  • Work closely with leadership to align site reliability engineering goals with broader organizational objectives, ensuring engineering efforts support business continuity and growth.

Expected Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Previous management experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership

    • Build and lead PayPal’s SRE Center of Excellence , shaping the vision, charter, and execution strategy.

    • Define global standards for reliability, observability, performance, and incident response across PayPal’s platforms.

    • Act as a thought leader for modern SRE practices, automation-first operations, and resilience engineering.

  • Operational Excellence

    • Drive reliability frameworks, playbooks, and governance models to ensure consistency and maturity across all SRE functions.

    • Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to reduce toil, improve system availability, and optimize cost-to-serve .

    • Oversee the development of metrics and KPIs to measure and improve operational performance.

  • Innovation & Enablement

    • Foster a culture of automation, observability, chaos engineering, and continuous learning .

    • Enable teams to adopt emerging technologies and practices (e.g., AIOps, advanced monitoring, error budgets, service-level objectives).

    • Champion the adoption of DevOps and SRE principles across the engineering organization.

  • People Leadership

    • Recruit, mentor, and grow a diverse team of SRE experts and reliability advocates .

    • Promote a culture of collaboration, transparency, and inclusion across global teams.

    • Provide coaching and career development for senior engineers and managers.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale engineering, operations, or infrastructure, with at least 5+ years in leadership roles .

  • Proven track record of building and scaling global SRE, DevOps, or platform engineering teams in complex environments.

  • Deep expertise in reliability engineering, cloud-native platforms, CI/CD,monitoring/observability,and automation frameworks .

  • Strong understanding of resilience, fault tolerance, incident management, and disaster recovery practices .

  • Demonstrated success in influencing senior stakeholders and driving cross-functional initiatives.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated industries .

  • Knowledge of AIOps, ML for operations, and modern reliability tooling .

  • Strong ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution .

The US national annual pay range for this role is $152,500 to $262,350
