About the role

As R&D Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of mechanical hardware engineers in the design, development, and commercialization of innovative electronic medical equipment (EME) within the Interventional Cardiology (IC) division of Boston Scientific

Your responsibilities include:

  • Hiring, coaching, and/or developing mechanical engineering talent.
  • Assessing mechanical project team needs accross IC and working with technical leads and program managers to ensure they are set up for technology and product development success.
  • Providing direction and/or guidance to mechanical engineers who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments. Will also supervise non-exempt employees and external contract design firms.
  • Fostering a diverse workplace that enables all participants to contribute to their full potential in pursuit of organizational objectives.

  • Demonstrating effective change leadership.

  • Developing and executing organizational and operational policies that affect one or more groups by utilizing technical/professional knowledge and skills.
  • Monitoring compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. compliance with FDA, BSI, EEO regulations, etc.).
  • Making decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve department objectives.
  • Developing, monitoring and appropriately adjusting the annual budget for department.
  • Monitoring and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures (e.g. federal/country and regulatory requirements).


Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or more from accredited school in Mechanical, Biotechnical, Biomedical or Electromechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years experience in medical equipment or medical device design
  • Demonstrated capability to produce innovative solutions for complex technical problems.
  • Personal drive, individual accountability & a strong bias for action.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in recent role
  • Willingness to work onsite at our Maple Grove, MN location 3+ days per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experience with Class II or Class III medical device product development
  • 2+ years of experience in direct management of mechanical engineers
  • Cross functional experience in working with external manufacturing partners, operations and test engineering and process development
