What You’ll Do

Authentication and Keys Team

  • Vehicle access control is a critical user facing system providing cutting edge user experiences like auto presenting doors, phone key and cloud key management. You will be challenged to think out of the box to bring up embedded software architecture while maintaining scalability, reliability, and efficiency of your code running on embedded environment. Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable embedded systems using cutting edge software development tools and practices.

Simulation and Modelling

  • The Chassis Controls team is looking for a Rust or C++ Developer Intern to expand our cutting-edge simulation platform built in Rust. The platform simulates combined physics/discrete/firmware scenarios. This also includes development of modeling frameworks and exploratory analysis tools. This role is crucial for new product development and for releasing high quality software to our existing customers. Creating, maintaining, and scaling highly efficient, effective, and thorough development systems enables us to have higher confidence in our releases and changes.

Chassis Controls

  • Come join the team that makes the car drive, brake, and steer. From low level embedded drivers to high level controls and customer facing features, join us to develop the firmware that moves our vehicles. Develop highly optimized firmware for motor controls, bring up new boards and microcontrollers for sensors and actuators, come up with controls strategies, or develop safety monitors – just some of things you could be working on!

Vehicle Controls Platform

  • The vehicle controls embedded platform team is responsible for implementing and testing shared device drivers, managing the core firmware runtime environment (RTOS, memory management, etc.), developing firmware build infrastructure, and managing Tesla’s layered firmware architecture. This position will support firmware development from prototyping to volume manufacturing. The vehicle controls platform firmware developer intern will develop and maintain a suite of device drivers across various microcontrollers and ICs, contribute to build system and development tools including code generators, and debug, root cause, and fix critical bugs.

Low Voltage Power

  • As a member of the firmware development team focused on low voltage power distribution and vehicle power states, you will be responsible for delivering high quality embedded code running on the processors at the heart of all Tesla vehicles. You will be a direct contributor toward the safety and user experience of charging Tesla vehicles. You will work on a variety of different aspects of embedded programming: interfacing with low voltage lithium-ion batteries (including health monitoring and extending health), electrical control of power distribution components, creation of device drivers and low-level hardware interactions, designing and developing control systems, defining and implementing user interactions, failure mode analysis, and hardware fault handling. You will join a team of deeply knowledgeable and passionate engineers that strive to build the most robust and reliable embedded systems using cutting edge software development tools and practices. You will solve some of the most challenging problems in the embedded software space and change the way the world produces electric vehicles and delivers energy.

Thermal Systems

  • The thermal software team is responsible for bringing new thermal management technologies to Tesla's vehicle products to optimize vehicle efficiency in wide range of climate conditions. The thermal software team is small, passionate, and fast moving. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining user facing features, controls and diagnostics for cabin HVAC, refrigerant and coolant systems in all of Tesla’s vehicle products. Your software will be directly responsible for managing all heat/cooling loads in and out of the vehicle. Come join us to build the most robust and reliable embedded thermal systems using cutting edge software development tools and practices.

UI Vehicle Development

  • As a Software Engineer Intern working on Vehicle-UI Development and Integration, you will be responsible for building in-car user interfaces to operate the vehicle's cutting-edge systems. You will work on a cross-functional team to implement and deliver user interfaces focused on the car's physical subsystems including HVAC, body controls, drive systems, charging, and more. You will utilize fundamental knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and work with designers to create elegant and intuitive vehicle controls.
What You’ll Bring
  • Currently working towards a degree Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • Experience in C/C++
  • Experience with embedded development and low-level coding
  • FSAE, Hyperloop or Solar Racing experience is a plus
  • Experience with RTOS, firmware architecture, device drivers or programming hardware components is a plus
  • Previous test experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) is a plus
