What you’ll do:
- Define a product vision for the team, considering user experience, brand perception, financial cost, and efficiency. This vision should span both technology and operations.
- Design a set of principles to guide and build a roadmap across the Uber tech organization that drives our external transparency and fairness narrative.
- Translate user needs and business priorities into clear product requirements.
- Identify patterns and opportunities to design a program that can rapidly scale. For example, what requirements should be handled quickly as one-offs and which ones warrant a dedicated tech effort to set us up in the future?
- Build and foster a strong team culture with a focus on execution and results.
- Clearly communicate product plans, tech investments, and impact to a diverse audience, ranging from executives and crossfunctional teams to our users.
Basic qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in related fields (including strategic operations, business consulting, finance) with a minimum 5 years of direct product experience.
- You are an independent self-starter biased toward action, a great collaborator, and constantly pushing toward clarity and delivery. You aren’t scared of ambiguity.
- Able to guide others through trade-offs between speed, quality, and cost. As well as platform and product capabilities, thus sequencing priorities accordingly.
- Strong systems thinker. You will be driving major tech investments. Thinking about how solutions can extend across multiple use cases will be critical.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts across cross-functional teams and to simplify key takeaways for executives.
- You thrive under pressure, sweat the details, and can execute on tight timelines in a rapidly changing external environment.
- Outcome and impact focused. No task is too small for you.
Nice-to-have:
- Background in engineering or computer science, finance, and / or general management.
- Experience and interest in law, public policy, and comms strategy. Policy wonks welcome!
- Experience managing senior cross-functional stakeholders globally.
- Ability to speak directly to regulators and external stakeholders. You would be the literal voice of Uber’s technology organization.
- A track record of building highly robust, technical platforms.
- Curiosity and ability to dive deep when necessary to unblock teams. You don’t shy away from hard problems or complexity.
- A never-ending desire to grow and learn. You never give up and set a high bar across the board, from your own contribution to the people you work with.
