As a Tax Audit Controversy Vice President within JPMorgan Chase’s Corporate Tax Department, you will be a key player in our State and Local Tax team. You will handle state and local corporate income tax audits, interact with state tax auditors, and participate in field appointments. Your role will involve defending state tax return filing positions, resolving state tax controversies, and supporting the state and local tax group on audits, regulatory, legislative, and compliance initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle state and local corporate income tax audits with various state tax auditors.
- Respond to information data requests and prepare supporting documentation.
- Interact with state tax auditors and participate in field appointments.
- Defend state tax return filing positions and modeling return scenarios.
- Resolve state tax controversies through settlement negotiations and closing agreements.
- Work with other Corporate Tax group members to resolve audit issues.
- Support state and local tax group on audits, regulatory, legislative and compliance initiatives.
- Communicate audit matters to State Compliance group for filing methodologies/revisions and Tax Accounting group for FIN 48 purposes.
- Participate in weekly group meetings to discuss new developments and share ideas with other team members.
- Assist with special/ad hoc projects as needed.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- 5+ years state and local tax experience working in Big 4 accounting firm or private industry.
- Substantial experience with state compliance, state apportionment factors and scenario analysis.
- Past experience working with state government tax field auditors.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excels and using programs such as OneSource tax applications.
- Developed time and people management skills.
- Excellent communication, organization and attention to detail skills that can work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- MBA with emphasis in tax, an MST and/or a CPA license.
- Financial services industry experience.
- Knowledge of OneSource Income Tax system.
- Experience using software such as SAP, Alteryx, BI tools or other data mining tools.
