Laboratory Technician

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Laboratory Technician you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Preparing, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment for testing. Supports technical staff in product development by performing tests to determine specific characteristics of experimental materials, or existing product modifications.
  • Creating documentation of the total process used in testing. Records test results in laboratory technical notebooks or on electronic equipment programs. Communicates results and information to the appropriate requester.
  • Assisting in factory experiments by collecting and interpreting data for test development. Utilizes standard equipment or may work with new machines. Participates in process modification as needed.
  • Working with technical personnel to develop a laboratory network of technical resources that can be used to complete assignments.
  • Maintaining supply of inventory to ensure laboratories are properly stocked. May order supplies of raw materials as needed.

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Associate Degree/Two year Technical Diploma (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Two (2) years of work experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Product testing, or similar experience, in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Demonstrated Skills
    • Decision Making: This job involves operations that are defined and follow clear patterns. Requires judgment to deal with slight variations in conditions or operations.
    • Problem Solving/Analysis: Most problems encountered in this job are comparable in nature and are cyclic. Solutions are evident and most often based upon past practices and/or experience and may include the gathering of readily available facts.
    • Innovation and Creativity: The job provides some opportunities for deviation from accepted procedures. Innovation and creativity used in this job include some changes to procedures and/or methods. Employees are expected to offer suggestions for improvements.
